Governor Rendell's ommentto the Philadelphia Inquirer is not accurate: “No donor did this oxtof the kindness oftheir heart. They all wanted access,” he sai, “They got exactly what they donated for. No donor should feel cheated” ‘The Commonwealth didnot ~and does not - want “acces.” ‘At your request and strong urging, as part ofthe state budget, we included $10 milion i state ‘taxpayer funds in support of te 2016 Democratie National Convention being held in Philadelphia. Falfiling that request wasnt easy Now we have leamed the comention host committe raised enough funds to create a $4 million surplus. Itis obvious you never discussed your plans to use surplus funds with the General Assembly or ‘Govemor Woif. And i seven more concerning the committee never even considered returning money back to stat taxpayers. Di you consult with Meyor Kenney before handing out money? ‘Governor Rendell and Chairman Perez May 18,2017 age Did you speak with members of the Philadelphia delegation? id you work with Superintendent Hite? ‘While you should have returned money back to the Commonveath taxpayers, you chose otherwise ‘You held a press conference 1 announce the donation of funding for nearly 80,000 school books: {or the Schoo! District of Philadelphia. It appears another $700,000 would have enabled the ‘campaign to reach is goal. Recognizing you were arbitrary giving away money thanks tothe ‘assistance of Pennsylvania taxpayers, why not go ahead and ffl that financial gol?
