subfolder. You can also search the <installation_folder>\AvocetVM\Documentation
subfolder for PDF versions.

Within Avocet, you can find documentation by clicking Help . Within Avocet Visualization
Designer, you can access documentation and video tutorials from its Help menu.

Whats New in Avocet 2014.1.3

Avocet 2014.1.3 provides the following updates to the Avocet 2014.1.2 release:
Updated HotKey Manager
You can assign and update hotkey combinations through a flyout menu that is available to every
toolbar ribbon option on each tab of every Avocet screen.
Validation Message Acknowledgement
You can now acknowledge validation errors and warnings, add comments to explain the
acknowledgement, and save the acknowledgement and comment for future reference. You can
acknowledge validation errors and warnings in a dialog box on the transaction screen, in a text
field on the History grid, or in the Validation Log Viewer.

Whats Changed in Avocet 2014.1.3

On an existing database implementation, the AvocetHelp file may not display when you click the Help
launch icon on a screen. In Avocet 2014.1.3, an informative prompt displays providing guidelines for
linking to the Help file. See Linking to Avocet Help.

Linking to Avocet Help

In your implementation, the AvocetHelp.chm file is located in the
implementationFolder\AvocetVM\help subfolder. If you are updating an existing implementation
database and the Help does not launch from the Help icon, then do the following:
1. Verify that you have the latest implementationFolder\AvocetVM\config\contextHelp.xml file. Its
contents should display as follows:
<ContextHelp>
<Link Culture="en-GB" Id="Root" Type="ROOT" Url="help\AvocetHelp.chm" />
<Link Culture="en-US" Id="Root" Type="ROOT" Url="help\AvocetHelp.chm" />
<Link Culture="es-CO" Id="Root" Type="ROOT" Url="help\AvocetHelp.chm" />
<Link Culture="es-EC" Id="Root" Type="ROOT" Url="help\AvocetHelp.chm" />
<Link Culture="es-VE" Id="Root" Type="ROOT" Url="help\AvocetHelp.chm" />

<Link Culture="ru-RU" Id="Root" Type="ROOT" Url="help\AvocetHelp.chm" />

</ContextHelp>
2. Add a <contextHelp> tag to your AppConfig_Implementation.xml file in the application ID stanza
that specifies the database to which you are connecting. You can place it at the same level as the
<layers> tag, as shown in this excerpt:
<layers>
<layer>AVM</layer>
. . . . . . . . . . .
<layer>AvocetSampler</layer>
</layers>
<dbInfo>
<base>DbInfo.xml</base>
<extension>DbInfo_OG_STD.xml</extension>
<extension>DbInfo_OPCUAServer.xml</extension>
</dbInfo>
<contextHelp>contextHelp.xml</contextHelp>
3. Reinitialize your database using the Avocet Configuration Tool utilitys Database Tools >
Database Initializer feature. Be sure to select the Load Context Help option.

Comparison of Avocet platforms

Avocet deployment engineers can compare the major features and performance enhancements of
different Avocet versions at this website.

Resolved Issues
The following issues were recorded in earlier versions of Avocet and have been resolved.

ID Resolution
28987 You can now access alarm limit values (L, LL, HH, H) and timestamps for Avocet HF
Store, corporate historian, and Avocet database from the Avocet Visualization
Designer.
30392 The Avocet Installer exits gracefully when you click Cancel.
37303 The APIS Logger utility starts automatically and runs throughout the high frequency
synchronization process.
47752 The high frequency synchronization process no longer throws an exception error
when you add multiple calculation tags coming from different data sources but
having the same transaction type and property.
48027 The Avocet UA client returns all records of a specific transaction that share the same
default START_DATETIME and END_DATETIME.
48155 A detailed exception message is displayed in the log file of the load process when the
Avocet HF Store fails to save data whenever incoming data events have different
timestamps.
48661 Alarm email notifications are triggered correctly when the alarm changes
state, not when the alarm range is updated.
48830 You can export a grid report to Excel without displaying a misleading File in
Use prompt window.
48961 The SCADA load process properly implements the OPC end aggregate, retrieving the
last raw value within the interval with the timestamp showing when the value occurs.
49572 The Alarm History chart shows the full range of alarm limit values.

ID Resolution
49901 The high frequency synchronization does not add unnecessary numerical strings to
the output tags in APIS Management Studio.
50466 The high frequency synchronization process automatically creates tag maps for inputs
that do not exist in the Avocet HF Store. You manually enter the node ID for the
corporate historian in the Data Flow screen of the item being monitored.
50558 The high frequency synchronization process no longer generates Component Object
Model (COM) related errors in APIS.
51555 You can link a PIPESIM model to a completion having the same Datetime value as the
model.
51699 To be sure the high frequency synchronization process creates the APIS modules
correctly, run the postinstall script postinstall.ps1 whenever you upgrade APIS.
52202 After the high frequency synchronization, the alarm category value is set to Level for
tags created in the TagOut list of the APIS Management Studio.
52898 On a parent-child transaction screen, correcting a validation error on a child
transaction is processed properly and no longer results in an exception error.
52946 When reading transaction property data, the Avocet UA server uses the
Item_StartDateTime value as the source timestamp. The dates of the transaction
property and of the Avocet item are in agreement.
53010 The initialization process for transaction properties works correctly. The Avocet UA
server no longer writes the object reference exception error to the Windows Event
Log.
54348 The Avocet data grid screens consistently display alarms across detail and overview
screens.
54427 Alarms display correctly across all columns of Avocet data grid screens as you scroll
horizontally from left to right.
Deployment engineers can view the complete list of Avocet 2014.1.3 resolved issues at this website.

Known Issues
The following issues affect Avocet 2014.1.3 and will be resolved in a future release.

ID Description
41825 The copy/paste function is not enabled for data fields in the History Grid that have an ellipsis
control () next to the data entry.

ID Description
50950 The SCADA load process may experience issues back loading more than two days worth of data.
If a load error is encountered, the process log file displays an error similar to the following:
Final save of cached transactions...
Loader task Avocet HF Store failed: Failed to Save - Data changed in database
after last retrieval. Failed Rows -

Workaround:
1. In the Data Loading Options panel of the Connection Manager screen, adjust
parameters such as Timeout and Commit Count to accommodate the data load.
2. In the
C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0.30319\Config\machine.config
file, add a <system.transactions> element where you specify a maxTimeout
attribute of 2 hours. Place the setting just before the closing </configuration>
tag.
</roleManager>
</system.web>
<system.transactions>
<machineSettings maxTimeout="02:00:00"/>
</system.transactions>
</configuration>
51436 The Job Log screen (Workovers and AFE > Job Log) inadvertently allows you to save multiple
records to the database having the same start dates but without corresponding end dates. These
records are not displayed in the History Grid.
When saving a job record, if you encounter an error message that begins as follows
[Failed to Save Data changed in database after last retrieval. Failed Rows
Row 1 START_DATETIME=.]
it indicates that a job record with the same start date and time, but without an end date and
time, exists in the database.
The EndDate time field is mandatory for every record you enter. If a validation rule is assigned to
the EndDate time field, do not bypass it by entering a validation acknowledgement.

51437 The Perforating Job screen (Workovers and AFE > Perforating Job) inadvertently allows you to
save multiple records to the database having the same start dates but without corresponding
end dates. These records are not displayed in the History Grid.
52744 The Validation Acknowledgement prompt, when linked with a drop-down combo box, closes
only after you click twice outside the prompt display.
52992 After entering a validation acknowledgement against a Comments field, you may have to click
twice in other data fields to edit them.
54614 The Validation Acknowledgement prompt continues to display in the foreground after you
navigate to other screens on the desktop. Minimizing the main Avocet screen eliminates the
foreground display.

ID Description
54809 You may not be able to immediately edit other data fields after you enter a validation
acknowledgement in the Validation Acknowledgement prompt against the Test Type field of the
Pressure Survey screen (Field Data > Well Reading > Pressure Survey). If this happens, click in
the Test Type field to enable editing of the other fields.
