In the world today, historical globalization is a controversial topic.

The source provided is

a text source and is based from a pro globalization perspective. It implies that colonization was
a good thing and that people benefitted from imperial powers coming and taking over their land.
It is also saying that colonization gave people more opportunities and gave them a better life.
Nations should not embrace historical globalization because of the negative social impacts, and
rampant abuse of political power by imperial nations.

Nations should not embrace historical globalization because of negative social impacts,
and rampant abuse of political power by imperial nations. During the 15th century imperial
power countries used negative social force to colonize, and take over other countries. During
The Scramble For Africa after the Berlin Conference of 1885, European countries took over and
divided up african land, and never consulted the Indigenous people living there. The African
land was being taken over and no one cared about the Indigenous people living there. King
Leopold started The Scramble For Africa in the late 19th century and was claiming land in name
of himself rather than his country. He ruled the land and the people on it claiming them as his
own personal colony, any people that resisted to work were beaten or killed. King Leopold
thought that he could control everyone and everything. During this time the government was
also trying to take over land and culture.

Similarly, This is what happened to the First Nations in the 19th and 20th century when
they signed the Indian Act. When the First Nations signed it the government wanted them to be
more like the European culture instead of practising their traditions and culture. The Indian Act
was a way for the Government to control the First Nations, and to try and assimilate them.
During the late 1800s the government was taking First Nations kids away from their families
and put them in Residential schools. While the kids were in these schools they were forced to
learn a new culture, and they were told that their culture wasnt good enough. The government
thought that European culture was greater than First Nations culture so they wanted to
assimilate everyone. In the 1900s the Apartheid occurred, it was when South Africa was racially
divided and White people had dominance over Black people. These people had to attend
different schools, hospitals, and all black people were judged because of the color of their skin.
These events did not help or benefit people living there, and it did not open up opportunities for
them. All these events occurred because if negative social force and people taking over land,
and trying to assimilate groups of people.

Nations should not embrace historical globalization because of the rampant abuse of
political power by imperial nations. In 1994 The Rwandan Genocide started. This started when
the Rwandan presidents plane crashed and the Hutu held the Tutsis people responsible for the
crash. This was when the Indigenous people started having conflict and had no political power
to tell them what to do and lead them. During the Genocide about 800,000 to 1 million
Indigenous people were killed, this was because of poor political power and leadership. During
this time Nelson Mandela was coming into power, and wanted to fight for equality among black
and white people. Between 1962-1990 Nelson Mandela was in jail for standing up against the
government and wanting equality for all people in South Africa. This time period was negative
for black people living in South Africa because they had to attended different schools, hospitals,
and churches than white people and they had no political leader that was concerned for their
well-being. Nelson Mandela ended this racially divided time in 1994 when he brought equality to
all people, and considered everyone equal in South Africa. These reasons prove that political
power negatively affected these nations, and people.

Nations should not embrace historical globalization because of negative social impacts,
and rampant abuse of political power by imperial nations. Nations were socially and politically
taking over nations, and groups of people. These negative effects from the past could have
contributed to how people act today, and the ways we look at events today. Nelson Mandela
had a huge part in political history, because he fought for equality between all people and
believed that everyone should be treated the same. Without Nelson Mandela taking over the
negative political power South Africa could be racially divided, and people all over the world
would have different views and opinions on racism today. In todays society if we say that
globalization was a great thing and everyone benefited from it then we would be hurting all the
people who were enslaved, put in colonies, and people who had their culture, land and identity
taken away. If we say that globalization was a horrible thing then we would be saying it doesnt
benefit us today, and we would be hurting people who contributed to globalization, and people
who influenced how the world is today. Also if we say that globalization was a bad thing we are
affecting the people who were in power during that time, and it would be like us saying they
were not important, and what they did to contribute to globalization was not beneficial to people
in the world today. These ideas show that not all people were benefitting from historical
globalization, and that there was negative social aspects, and political aspects from these
things. Also it shows that colonizing countries, and imperial powers taking over was not good for
all people, and people didnt get a better life from his happening to them.
