remote controls
Model M1 is the most basic manually controlled FLUMP Dredge. The only options are an electric traverse sys-
tem and some displays.
Model A1 has an automated dredging sequence that enables the dredge to run through a complete cycle with no
required operator control. Model A1 has an optional radio remote controller.
Model A2, a conceptual design requiring custom engineering, has the highest degree of automation with feed-
back loops to a programmable logic controller (PLC) for sludge density control, automated lateral position con-
trol, and slurry flow control. The fully automated FLUMP Dredge (Model A2) provides computerized control of
the pump speed, and, via convenient push button control, dredge travel, working depth, and assures consistent
solids density output. The operator can control the FLUMP Dredge from a control panel on-shore, or with a
hand-held radio remote.
Choose a fully automated FLUMP Dredge to gain labor savings and improved efficiency with computerized con-
trol of your entire dredging operation. The operator determines the desired solids density and flow-rate, enters
the performance specifications into the PLC via a convenient keypad.
The automated FLUMP Dredge constantly monitors and adjusts its own operation to deliver exactly the speci-
fied output. If your FLUMP Dredge feeds a dewatering process, the automated FLUMP Dredge streamlines your
operation by providing the dewatering press or centrifuge precisely the desired sludge volume, while reducing
labor hours and use of costly polymers. Automate repetitive cleaning of your ponds, basins or lagoons of bio-
solids and residuals with SRS Crisafullis automated FLUMP Dredge that delivers superior control, performance
and productivity.
Automating the FLUMP Dredge (Models A1 or A2) in a high utilization application - i. e., running almost continu-
ously - is a smart business decision. Automation provides owners with excellent returns-on-investment ("ROI")
through reduced operating costs. SRS Crisafulli staff will work with you to run the numbers based on analysis
of your particular application to determine the most cost effective dredging solution for you.
SRS Crisafulli engineered the Cobra with dual opposing auger sections and hardened steel replaceable digging
tines. Two high-torque, low speed hydraulic motors, each with 5,500 inch/pounds of digging torque, drive the
Cobra cutterhead, for a total of 11,000 inch/pounds of torque in the optional dual drive Cobra (19,000 inch/
pounds in the new Rotomite-8000). Cobras design incorporates a shroud to minimize water intrusion, and op-
posing augers (which drive dredged material directly to the center, directly in front of the pump intake) to maxi-
mize solids capture.
Cobra Horizontal Auger Cutterhead
To dredge compacted or hardened settled wastes, such as fly ash, sediments, or mine tailings, select the Cobra
Cutterhead, whose cutting teeth are stronger and sharper than those on horizontal auger cutterheads built by
competitors. Less of each Cobra cutter tooth contacts the material to be dredged to concentrate digging torque
over a smaller surface area. To ensure extended wear life, SRS Crisafulli hardens the surface of the leading edge
of the Cobras cutter teeth, the edge that does the real cutting work.
Depending on horsepower and pump size, a Cobra Cutterhead on a FLUMP Dredge can process up to 150 cubic
yards of sludge per hour. SRS Crisafulli believes its Cobra Cutterhead is the most effective horizontal auger cut-
terhead offered by any manufacturer worldwide.

We began looking at sludge dredges but were very cautious of cutter heads that might disturb the settled solids
blanket affecting water quality. Our goal was simple. Remove the solids on a continuous basis without affecting
water quality and keep both basins in service while this was being performed."
"We purchased a standard duty (SRS Crisafulli) FLUMP and removed and replaced the cutter head with a siphon
manifold. We were able to remove solids at a rate of 300 to 500 gallons per minute on a daily basis without
affecting water quality. Shortly, we purchased a second FLUMP and made the same modification. The use of
these two units has allowed us to solve two major problems at the Hanahan Water Treatment Plant -(a) Keeping
the two major basins in service while we remove solids on a continuous basis, and (b) Eliminating a frequent
solids loading problem enabling our solids handling facility to function as designed without overload. Now, with
the use of the modified standard duty FLUMPs, we only drain the basins annually for a scheduled routine clean-
ing and maintenance."

To carry the dredged sludge from the FLUMP Dredge to the designated disposal site, typically on land, the
FLUMP Dredge uses a SRS Crisafulli Integral Floating Discharge Line (CIFDL). The Discharge Line is modular,
offered in either 15 foot or 20 foot rigid lengths, and 5 foot flexible lengths, and is one of three styles i.e., (1)
aluminum pipe with aluminum floats, (2) aluminum pipe with foam floats, and (3) polyethylene pipe with foam
floats. SRS Crisafulli recommends starting at the FLUMP Dredge with a flexible section, then alternating rigid
and flexible, and ending in a flexible section. Each section, either rigid or flexible, includes a female quick cou-
pler, a ring clamp and rubber gasket. A #150 flange is available to adapt to a customers pipe line. The Dis-
charge Line is offered in 4 inch, 6 inch, 8 inch, and 10 inch diameters. The SRS Crisafulli Floating Discharge
Line system is highly versatile, easy to set up and use, and can carry heavy, concentrated sludge across a pond
to the discharge site, distances often up to 500 feet.
When used with SRS Crisafulli's patented Pivoting Traverse System and a cabled traverse system, the
FLUMP Dredge is approximately 48% more productive than competitive products. SRS Crisafulli FLUMP
Dredges can complete lagoon dredging projects in approximately half the time and save owners all or close
to the entire cost of the FLUMP Dredge over several years from reduced operating costs.
Dramatically reduces down time. SRS Crisafullis unique and patented PTS enables the entire FLUMP Dredge
to pivot 180 degrees within one minute at the end of each forward dredging pass. Without the SRS Crisafulli
PTS, operators spend much time repositioning the dredge between dredging passes when a dredge is run on
a cabling or rail traverse system. While some dredge makers claim full pumping rates when their dredges
move backwards, few if any achieve 100% efficient dredge operation in reverse.
Significant cost savings. With an average repositioning time of 57 minutes (without the SRS Crisafulli Pivot-
ing Traverse System), an average dredging speed of 7 feet per minute, in a pond 400 feet long and 400 feet
wide, with an auger cutting width of 7.5 feet, time spent repositioning between each forward pass would total
57 minutes without the PTS vs. 1 minute with the PTS. Total time to dredge the 400 foot x 400 foot pond
would be reduced from 102 hours to 52 hours. With an assumed hourly operating cost (operator only) of
$30, the PTS can save our customer with a SRS Crisafulli FLUMP Dredge model F04D $1,497 dredging one
pond once, resulting in a pretax return on investment in the PTS of 12%. The PTS achieves a much larger
savings ($3,743) and higher ROI (30%) on the smaller ST-3 FLUMP Dredge. To compute a customers total
annual savings, multiply that savings by the size of the customers ponds and the number of times each year
the customer must dredge their ponds. A monthly dredging frequency would result in an annual cost sav-
ings of $8,213 with the larger, faster FLUMP Dredge and an annual cost savings of $44,914 with the smallest
FLUMP Dredge. The ROI on the cost of the Pivoting Traverse System would range between 66% and 359%.
For new or existing FLUMP Dredges. SRS Crisafulli can provide the Pivoting Traverse System with new
FLUMP Dredges or retrofit the PTS to existing FLUMP Dredges.
Annual cost savings dredging pond monthly $44,914 $17,966 $20,533 $8,213
(a) Assumes return pass has dredge out of water - i.e., does no work
(c) Annual cost savings with Rotomite, monthly dredging, 10 foot advance rate - $12,642.
SRS Crisafulli uses its S-Series or J-Series direct drive, electrically powered, self-priming, centrifugal 1,150 RPM
and 1,750 RPM pumps on FLUMP Dredges, with a steel shaft extending from the motor to the pump. A hydrau-
lically powered pump is offered as an option on FLUMP Dredges.
SRS Crisafulli has engineered and built pumps for more than 40 years and started business as Crisafulli Pump
Company. SRS Crisafulli Pumps are proven reliable and effective. SRS Crisafulli builds pumps in sizes ranging
from 2 inches (the diameter of the discharge pipe on the pump) to 24 inches. Depending on size, horse power,
and application, SRS Crisafulli Pumps achieve flow rates of up to 18,000 gallons per minute. SRS Crisafulli fabri-
cates its pumps and engineers its pump impellers and volutes to handle abrasive slurries. Depending on pump
size, SRS Crisafulli Pumps can process golf balls - i.e., solids with diameters in excess of four inches.
Process up to 150 cubic yards of sludge per hour. Depending on the size of the FLUMP Dredge and the desired
sludge processing capability, the SRS Crisafulli Pump will have a 3 inch, 4 inch, or 6 inch discharge diameter.
As a rule of thumb, the sludge processing capability of SRS Crisafulli Pumps, used on the FLUMP Dredge, will
equal in cubic yards per hour the HP of the motor - i.e., a 100 HP motor driving a SRS Crisafulli 6 inch pump will
process 100 cubic yards of sludge per hour.
The SRS Crisafulli S and J-Series Pumps used on the FLUMP Dredge are made in Glendive, Montana, manufac-
tured with an ASTM AR400 mild carbon steel (BHN 400 hardness) pump volute and impeller, and dual carbon/
ceramic shaft seals. The pump is mounted directly behind the cutterhead and is lowered (with the cutterhead)
into the pond on the FLUMP Dredges ladder (the pivoting arm on which the pump and cutterhead are mounted,
extending from the dredge platform to reach the lagoon bottom during operation).
The SRS Crisafulli Pump has sufficient power to lift sludge up to 30 feet from the pond bottom to the pond sur-
face and then to push the sludge horizontally up to 500 feet over water through the SRS Crisafulli Floating Dis-
charge Line, without a booster pump, to the designated dump site. Once the sludge is over land, the SRS Crisa-
fulli S and J-Series pumps can push the sludge up to approximately 3,500 feet, depending on the topography
and the consistency of the sludge.
Over 40 years, SRS Crisafulli has developed proprietary pump designs. SRS Crisafulli Impeller Inside describes
our pump line - our trailer, vertical, hydraulic, and submersible pumps. With a SRS Crisafulli Impeller Inside cus-
tomers are assured of reliable, high capacity dredging systems.
Hand-held radio remote control systems enable operators to control FLUMP Dredges from distances of more
than 1,500 feet.
As an unmanned dredge, a FLUMP Dredge, when operated in a cabled traverse system, is positioned and
moved, either manually or automatically, along a tensioned galvanized steel cable extending across the pond.
The cable is attached at either end of the pond to a galvanized steel cable affixed to sturdy steel posts set
firmly in the ground (generally in concrete foundations). This form of traverse system is built with either two
or four posts. Lateral positioning of the FLUMP Dredge is either manual, or electric by two 3/4 HP shore
based electric winches. Accordingly, such traverse systems are referred to as; (a) 2 post manual, (b) 4 post
manual, or 4 post electric.
Alternatively, a FLUMP Dredge can be positioned and controlled when the traverse cable is attached to a
Trolley fastened to a shore based steel rail at either end of the pond for uncomplicated control over the
lateral positioning function. This style is commonly referred to as a rail traverse.
SRS Crisafulli offers standard kits for traverse systems and provides consulting and installation services to
the customer for construction of the traverse system at the customers site. The size of the pond and the
type of traverse system influence the cost.
Due to the cost of a traverse system, ranging from a few thousand dollars for a manual system to $30,000 or
more for a large railed system, FLUMP Dredges are most economical for the customer when used to dredge
ponds that require repeated dredging.
