Goals For Next Year

Arcadia, CA Since its inception, the Arcadia Civic Youth Council has focused on several key areas enveloping
its primary purpose of youth engagement, these areas being civic activism, community involvement, and
historical appreciation. This season, we would like to focus our efforts on student-led campaigns tackling
community issues, and member-to-member communication and
involvement to increase organization camaraderie. In short, the
Arcadia Civic Youth Council does not want to be just another
volunteer organization for those seeking hours and
opportunities, and instead, we would like to foster a greater
sense of independence and leadership in our members by
offering them the podium to take matters into their own hands
and contribute answers to issues they are passionate about.
During the upcoming school year, we want to place emphasis on
autonomy and organization, giving members and officers
authority to create campaigns and lead them. In past years,
theres also been a lack of community within our organization,
and we would like to address that by opening more avenues of
communication between members and officers. Were planning
to be more prompt with communication, more organized with
our events, and to solidify plans before they are put into action. With these goals in place, were looking forward
to another great year for ACYC!

Arcadia History Day

Arcadia, CA On June 14, ACYC and the Historical Society came together to host History Day. The purpose of
this day was to have a fun and educational events for kids to learn about Arcadia and it's history.
There were game booths that offered prizes for correct answers given by the players. For example in the
Bean Bag game, if a player answered a question right, they would get bean bags; depending on which one they
landed in, they would get a prize.
More booths included games like Picture Matching, Crafts, and Painting. In the
Picture Matching Booth, players would have to correctly match up pictures of
famous landmarks and facts about them. The Crafts booth offered children a
fun activity in which they can make a basket or of construction paper. The
Painting booth gave the children to paint with red paint as people did years ago,
traditionally. Volunteers from ACYC and Leo Club went to help set up and clean
up. The Historical Society was there to give anyone curious more facts about
Arcadia.
Overall, the event was a successful as a lot of kids had fun and learned about
Arcadias rich history at the same time.

Whats Happening in Arcadia?

Arcadia, CAOn February 12, the city council of Arcadia spent $20,000 to exterminate bothersome coyotes.
The city council faced a lot of backlash with this campaign, but the city council felt that this was their best
choice because it ensured the safety of our children and pets. Another recent topic discussed by the city council
was whether to put a 53 foot cell phone tower by Verizon in The Church of the Transfiguration. The cell tower
will camouflage with the surrounding pine trees. There are several downsides of placing a 53 foot tower: it
poses a danger to preschool and elementary school children, may cause hazardous fires, and may lead to
unprecedented health effects, but the city council still decided to allow Verizon to build the cell phone tower.
