ABACUS Enterprise Server Installation Instructions

The ABACUS Enterprise server requires the Subversion platform which is freely available for Red Hat
Linux 8.0 and 9, SPARC/Solaris 2.5 - 10, Mac OS X, Windows NT, 2000, XP and
2003/2008/2008_R2/2012 Server, HP UX and IBM AIX and i5/OS. There are no known special
requirements of the Subversion installation for ABACUS.

Whilst Subversion is available for many platforms, Avolution only directly supports an installation
using the freely available VisualSVN management console, which is a standalone server (i.e. does not
require a web server to be previously installed). Note: For Microsoft Active Directory (AD)
integration, Multisite Replication or Access and Operational Logging VisualSVN Enterprise is
required.

Instructions for installing the VisualSVN console on a Windows server are provided below. For Non-
Windows servers, please visit the Subversion website and download/install Subversion for your
server OS: http://subversion.apache.org/.

Please follow the steps outlined below to download and install VisualSVN (~4Mb):

1) Go to http://www.avolutionsoftware.com/downloads/VisualSVN-Server-2.7.4.msi
2) Install the VisualSVN Server Manager on a Windows server (NT, 2000, XP, 2003,
2008/2008_R2 or 2012) and be sure to:
a. To use an unsecure connection uncheck the Use secure connection box and
configure ports as port 80
b. To use a secure connection, ensure the Use secure connection box is checked, and
configure port as 443.
c. Choose Use Subversion authentication.

Once you have installed VisualSVN Server Manager, you need to configure it as follows:

3) Right Click Users | Create User. Repeat as necessary. Note: ABACUS does not require
separate users for each person using a repository so you could create a single user and
give the username/password to all users if you wish. ABACUS tracks users based on
Windows logon name and/or ABACUS user name.
4) Right Click Repositories | Create New Repository and enter a name for the Repository, and
uncheck create default structure. By default, Everyone (all created users) will have access
to this repository.
5) Right Click on the repository just created and select Properties. On the dialog set the
permissions for Everyone to no access (because by default everyone has access to the
repository and there is no authentication required). Then click Add and select the user
created in step 3). It will default to read/write access which is correct.
6) Right click the created repository | Copy URL to clipboard.
7) Supply this URL (or equivalent depending on network setup) to users for creating and
accessing ABACUS Enterprise files (once they have installed the ABACUS Enterprise Client).
Also supply the username/password created in step 3.

Accessing the repository on the server

When connecting to the repository you may face an error such as Cant resolve server name. The
cause of this is either the SVN command line client doesnt have access to the internet via the
proxy, or it doesnt have sufficient access to the DNS server to resolve DNS names.

If this happens, you need to check the proxy settings in Subversion. They are stored:
Start -> Run-> notepad %appdata%\Subversion\servers

This opens the servers file in notepad, at the bottom of the file there is a Global section, it may all be
commented out, if so, you need to add your relevant proxy settings to the bottom, e.g. as we have
at the very last lines:

[global]
# http-proxy-exceptions = *.exception.com, www.internal-site.org
# http-proxy-host = defaultproxy.whatever.com
# http-proxy-port = 7000
# http-proxy-username = defaultusername
# http-proxy-password = defaultpassword
# http-compression = no
# http-auth-types = basic;digest;negotiate
# No http-timeout, so just use the builtin default.
# No neon-debug-mask, so neon debugging is disabled.
# ssl-authority-files = /path/to/CAcert.pem;/path/to/CAcert2.pem
#
# Password / passphrase caching parameters:
# store-passwords = no
# store-plaintext-passwords = no
# store-ssl-client-cert-pp = no
# store-ssl-client-cert-pp-plaintext = no

http-proxy-host = internet_proxy2.via.novonet
http-proxy-port = 80
