Statement of Special Agent in Charge Amy S. Hess regarding

fugitive Eric C. Conn:

This morning, the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Kentucky
sentenced Eric C. Conn in absentia to 12 years in prison, ordered him to pay
almost $170,000,000 in restitution, a $50,000 fine, and a forfeiture judgment of
$5,750,404.
Last month, prior to sentencing, Eric Conn fled prosecution for defrauding the
United States Government of over half a billion dollars. Since that time, the FBI
has worked diligently to locate Conn and will continue to do so until he is brought
back to justice.

The negative impact of Conns presence in our community will be felt for
generations. His flight from prosecution has diminished any legitimacy and
integrity he once held as an attorney and officer of the court.

Through our investigation we discovered that Conn fled using a truck owned and
registered by a co-conspirator to a dummy company in Montana. This co-
conspirator also supplied Conn with other materials to assist him. The FBI traced
the truck to where it was ultimately abandoned for us to find in New Mexico near
the border.
Along the way, Conn made several stops including a gas station and a Walmart in
New Mexico. On both occasions, Conns activities were captured on video
surveillance.
There is no indication at this time that Conn crossed the border into Mexico.

Conn continues to become isolated from family, friends, and associates who are
turning their backs on him or are rendered unable to help him. His resources are
continually dwindling.
We are actively seizing bank accounts and disrupting other means of support while
pursuing law enforcement action against co-conspirators in his flight. It is in the
best interest of anyone helping him to cooperate with law enforcement and avoid
criminal charges for providing aid to him.

Currently there is a reward of $20,000 in place for any information that leads to
Conns location and arrest.

We are releasing the surveillance photos of Conn which show his current
appearance. People who have had contact with Conn should immediately provide
that information to law enforcement.

The community is asked to call FBI Louisville at (502) 263-6000 with any
information regarding Eric Conn.
