1 WHAT IS YOUR RESPONSE TO THE PLP STATING IN THEIR PLATFORM
THAT THEY WANT MARRIAGE TO BE BETWEEN A MAN AND A WOMAN? It is important to note that Preserve Marriage does not endorse political parties, because we represent and serve a vast and diverse population in Bermuda through thorough research and education. In addition, we are aware that MPs from both parties have voted to support the Human Rights Act Amendment for traditional marriage put forth by MP Wayne Furbert, that passed in the House of Assembly in 2016. Yet, we are thankful that the PLP has included this issue in its platform. It demonstrates their collective stand to support the Community Appeal against the same-sex marriage ruling led by Mr. Maxwell Burgess.
2 WHY IS MARRIAGE SUCH AN IMPORTANT TOPIC IN BERMUDA?
Marriage is such an important topic because of the impact it has on our culture and our children. It has been proven that a redefinition of marriage undoubtedly leads to the reordering of society. We fully understand that the issue of same-sex marriage, under the guise of equality, has little to do with marriage, but rather opens the door for a greater agenda which is to transform society for the next generation. This includes, but is not limited to, a revision of sex-education curriculum in our schools. This will result in the loss of rights for parents to teach their own children about gender and sexuality. Furthermore, it will garner our childrens acceptance of a lifestyle of open sexuality according to the LGBT+ agenda (now defined as LGBTQIAPK: Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersexual, Asexual, Pansexual and Polygamous, and Kinkiness). It also leads to those who stand for and teach about traditional marriage to be labeled as bigots or haters, and results in further legal challenges to introduce other forms of marriages. For this reason, we encourage those who are passionate about preserving marriage in Bermuda to simply ask new MPs where they stand on this issue. They should also consider where current MPs stand based on how they voted in 2016 pertaining to MP Furberts Bill, regardless of the political party on which they serve.
3 WHY ARE SO MANY PEOPLE IN BERMUDA TAKING A FIRM STAND FOR
TRADITIONAL MARRIAGE? The vast growing number of persons in this country standing for traditional marriage include the over 14,100 who voted against same-sex marriage in the referendum (although non-binding); over 3,000 who stood on the grounds of Parliament; and over 8,000 who lodged the Community Appeal against the recent same-sex marriage ruling. This includes those who have a religious affiliation and those who do not, but believe in the Creator who introduced and defined marriage. In addition, they understand that same-sex marriage is not a human right (which is in step with the European Court Human Rights that Bermudas Human Rights Act 1981 falls under). Preserve Marriage believes that standing to uphold traditional marriage is not discriminatory or hateful. We simply believe that the people of Bermuda should be able to decide and stand for the culture that shapes our children and grandchildren. If not, future generations would neither understand or value the importance of the separate and unique parenting gifts that a man and woman, as mother and father, bring into the lives of children, which ultimately will forever destroy the stability of Bermudas culture.
