1. SCOPE AND INTENT

This Specification covers the minimum requirements for motors used to drive pumps,
compressors and other mechanical equipment in the oil production facility and electric
power plant services. Taken alone, this specification covers induction motors. The intent
is to permit the use of Seller-standard equipment to the fullest degree consistent with the
Buyers minimum requirement for such services.

This specification applies to:

low voltage (LV) motors, i.e., those with rated voltage below 1000 V.

medium voltage (MV) motors i.e., those with rated voltage 1000 V or higher.

Compliance with this Specification shall not relieve the Seller of responsibility for
furnishing equipment of proper design, construction and scope of supply, fully suitable for
all specified operating conditions.

All exceptions, comments and clarifications to this Specification and to the IEC and
Venezuelan national standards referenced herein shall be addressed in the proposal, by
specific reference to the applicable IEC or Venezuelan standard paragraph or Job
Specification article.

The remainder of this specification is divided into three parts as follows:

Part 1 - General Requirements (Sections 2 - 10).

Part 2 - Additional Requirements for Motors Protected Against the Hazard of Explosion
or Fire (Sections 11 - 18).

Part 3 - Additional Requirements for Motors over 4,000kW or Specified as "Special-

Purpose" in the Material Requisition (Sections 19 - 22).

2. PART 1 - GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

2.1 General

Part 1 of the specification includes general requirements and statements common to

general purpose motors as well as to motors protected against the hazard of explosion or

fire. The specific requirements and statements relevant to the latter category of motors,
including definitions, are covered in Part 2 of the specification.

This specification requires compliance with Venezuelan codes, standards and regulations
which may be applicable, using the hierarchy of article I.E above (i.e., with IEC being
subordinate wherever conflicts exist). This includes the Venezuelan Safety and Health
Law for Work Environment of July 1986 and the , Industrial Safety and Health Programs,
Covenin 2260-8" of 1988.

Motors, electrical components and electrical systems shall also be in compliance with
Covenin 200, which is the National Electric Code of Venezuela. This Code is largely the
same as the standard 70 of the National Fire Prevention Association (NFPA) at the time of
this writing, recognizing both hazardous area classifications Division-based and Zone-
based.

The electrical motor shall be manufactured, tested and approved by the standard
International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).

The equipment shall be complete within the scope of supply boundaries specified,
including all components, systems and features required for the specified service(s) and
for the characteristics of the Sellers design, whether or not such items are individually
cited in the technical specification or Purchase order and whether or not the terms
standard or Sellers standard are used.

The Sellers experience for the equipment shall include at least two (2) examples of each
of the types/models proposed, equal-to or greater than the proposed equipment as
regards the principal operational parameters (e.g. power rating, voltage) and
manufactured at the same factory as applies to the equipment proposed. Both of such
units shall have accumulated a minimum of two years of successful field operation. No
new design or unproven (per the above criteria) equipment components shall be provided,
except as a proposal-stated exception to the specification with subsequent acceptance of
such exception by the Buyer in the Purchase Order. Alternative designs may be quoted to
utilize Seller-standard equipment and assist in meeting this experience requirement,
subject to the same exception and approval process.

The motor Seller shall be identified in the proposal for all motors supplied as part of
equipment packages (e.g. compressor, fan and pump sets) and shall be subject to
approval by the Buyer. The purpose of this requirement is to ensure that the diversity of
motors at the job site is kept within manageable limits.

The service life of the motor and its auxiliary equipment for the service conditions specified
shall be not less than 20 years, excepting the anti-friction bearing L-10 life criteria
specified herein, and for a minimum of three years of continuous operation.

3.9 Noise

In order to comply with Venezuelan requirements concerning exposure of plant personnel

to noise, individual noise sources shall be limited, where possible, to the following sound
pressure levels:

85 dBA at 1 meter from the source of the noise, unless approved by Buyer. The Seller
shall achieve this condition as a contractual requirement for the equipment in its basic
state (i.e. with no special sound treatment provisions). If meeting this criteria will result in
excessive costs, then the Seller is requested to do both of the following:

- State in the proposal an exception to the specification in this respect.

- Quote an option for the achieving of this condition, based on descending cost
associated with noise levels identified in Item b, below.

It should be noted that 8 hr. time weighed average exposure to sound pressure levels in
excess of 85 dBA may require audiometric testing or personnel use of individual hearing
protective devices. Therefore, in-plant noise shall be limited to 85 dBA, unless approved
by the Buyer. [Note that noise levels of up to 88 and 91 dBA are considered acceptable
where exposure levels are less than 4 and 2 hours, respectively per Covenin 1565:1995].

The equipment will thereafter be acceptable only with the Buyers approval in its basic
state or (as decided by the Buyer) with purchase of the noise abatement option quoted.
All noise abatement measures involving lagging or enclosures shall be in conformance
with the Specification CA04-00-00-G-SP-013.

The maximum free-field noise level shall also in no case exceed 120 dB(A) for the
measurement locations cited above, for noise from infrequently encountered and
emergency events such as the opening of relief, vent and blowoff valves. Noise
abatement measures shall, in all cases, be included in the base bid if and when needed to
comply with this criterion.

The Seller shall be responsible for designing and implementing any modifications required
to reduce the noise to a level authorized by local regulations at the place of use if the
above-described 85 dB(A) basic-state commitment is made in the proposal but not
achieved onsite, or if the quoted option is purchased but fails to produce the required
effect, or if the aforementioned 120 dB(A) requirement is not achieved onsite.

The noise level shall be determined by using the A-weighting curve (IEC 60034 - 9), and
sound levels shall be expressed in dB(A).

of the rated full load current, unless a lower figure is specified in the Material
Requisition. The variation to be considered is the difference between maximum
and minimum ordinates of the envelope of the line drawn on an oscillogram
through the consecutive peaks of the current waves. The peak value is the square
root of two, multiplied by the R.M.S. value.

- to keep thermal and dynamic stresses within allowable limits.

If an increase of the rotational inertia is needed, the motor Seller shall study the matter
and reach agreement with the Seller of the driven equipment, regarding the technically as
well as economically most appropriate solution to obtain the required total flywheel effect.

Weather-protected motors shall be fitted with air filters. Filters shall be easily inspectable
and removable while the motor is running, without risk of ingestion or harm to personnel,
and they shall be suitable for at least one month of continuous operation between
successive cleanings.

dirty shall be included.

Control of medium voltage motors with vacuum contactors:

If it is specified in the Material Requisition that the motors shall be controlled with vacuum
or SF6 contactors or by circuit breakers the Seller shall furnish a suitable type of
insulation. The Seller shall specify characteristics of surge suppressors, if they are
necessary to prevent high frequency oscillations on closing due to prestrike.

- Vibratory stress-relieving shall be applied prior to baseplate machining if and

where required to prevent stress relieving-related distortion in service.

The following requirements apply when use with an ASD is specified or requested as an
option in the Material Requisition, for small (less than 50 KW) units of comparatively
straightforward engineering coordination requirements (i.e. allowing separate procurement
of the ASD and the motor). The ASD themselves will be provided by the Buyer as part of
the motor control gear line-up. The motor Seller shall be responsible for obtaining from the
driven equipment and ASD Sellers all coordination information needed, such as the
planned speed range and ASD harmonics content, with copies of such correspondence
being provided also to the Buyer.

Motors using ASDs shall be specifically built or selected for this purpose, including having
any extra cooling air flow needed for heat generated by harmonics and for the effect of
operating at low speeds, as well as having any insulation upgrades necessitated by wave
form irregularities. The specified Class B temperature rise shall be maintained and, when
a hazardous atmosphere is specified in the Material Requisition, the surface temperature
shall also be maintained within the required limits.

The rotating equipment strings maximum and minimum allowed operating speeds shall,
for rotating equipment packages, be identified by the Seller having unit responsibility, in
the proposal as preliminary information and after order is final, taking into account
rotordynamic limitations as described below as well as all other considerations applicable
(such as cooling at low speeds, excessive high-speed NPSHR and flow-induced vibration
for pumps, and prevent of motor "cogging" at low speeds). Any speed intervals within the
allowed speed range for which derating or limited dwell time is required shall be identified
in the proposal as an exception to the specification; and, if the exception is subsequently
approved by the Buyer, the motor Seller shall communicate to the ASD supplier (with a
copy of correspondence to the Buyer) "skip frequency" programming for automatic
avoidance of such speeds. Under no circumstances, however, shall the need for such
programming prevent the driven equipment from satisfying any of the specific operating
conditions stated in the Material Requisition.

The rotating equipment strings torsional resonant frequencies shall for packaged
equipment be identified by the Seller having unit responsibility, and they shall be stated in
the proposal as preliminary information and after order as final. This information shall also
(again with a copy to the Buyer) be communicated by the motor Seller to the ASD supplier
so that harmonics of the ASDs fundamental frequency are tuned to avoid exciting such
resonances, with a minimum separation margin of 10 percent (potentially via applying the
aforementioned skip-frequency approach).

The equipment strings lateral and torsional critical speeds shall be identified by the Seller
having unit responsibility and stated in the proposal as preliminary information and after

order as final. The allowed speed range(s) shall be communicated by the motor Seller to
the ASD supplier (with a copy of correspondence to the Buyer) and shall provide a
minimum separation margin of 10 percent in all cases (potentially via applying the
aforementioned skip-frequency approach).

Any remaining requirement for use of a torsionally resilient coupling shall be fulfilled by the
Seller having unit responsibility.

The process sensor(s) and setpoint input will in all cases be Buyer-supplied, and the same
is true of the process controller, unless specified otherwise in the Material Requisition.

The rotating equipment strings maximum and minimum allowed operating speeds shall be
identified by the Seller having unit responsibility, taking into account rotor dynamic
limitations as described below as well as all other considerations applicable.

Adjustable speed control will allow the motor to be operated over a wide range of speed.
Both low speed motor with step-up gear and high-speed motor directly coupled (without
gear-box) designs are acceptable, unless otherwise specified in the DS.

The converter-motor manufacturer(s) shall select the optimum motor design to match this
optimum input speed range. The synchronous speed may be different from the traditional
60 Hz, fixed speed applications (1200, 1800, 3600 rpm).

The motor manufacturer shall be responsible for obtaining from the driven equipment and
converter manufacturers all coordination information needed, such as the planned speed
range and harmonics content. The Seller with unit responsibility shall coordinate all
parties involved. There are several issues that the Seller shall address for reliable
operation:

Variable speed motors shall be designed to perform with harmonics generated from the
converters. It will be Sellers responsibility to coordinate with the suppliers of the
adjustable speed drive system components to obtain all necessary harmonics data and
make sure that the motor is designed for the specified operation.

Inverter fed motors shall be specifically built or selected for this purpose, including any
extra cooling air flow needed for heat generated by harmonics and for the effect of
operating at low speeds, as well as having any insulation upgrades needed by waveform
distortion. The specified Class B temperature rise shall be maintained and, when a
hazardous atmosphere is specified in the DS, the surface temperature shall also be
maintained within the required limits.

Any speed intervals within the allowed speed range for which derating or limited dwell time
is required shall be identified in the proposal as an exception to the specification; and, if
the exception is subsequently approved by the Buyer, the motor Seller shall communicate
to the PDS supplier (with a copy of correspondence to the Buyer) the "skip frequency"
programming for automatic avoidance of such speeds. Under no circumstances, however,
shall the need for such programming prevent the driven equipment from satisfying any of

Motors shall be equipped with two in-babbit bearing temperature detectors per bearing.
Factory and jobsite acceptance test metal temperatures for in-bearing sensors shall not
exceed 93C for journal bearings and 100C for thrust bearings under any and all
specified operating conditions.

Factory testing shall, for the purpose of checking compliance with this and the
rotordynamic requirements of this specification, be conducted with the oil supply
temperature at least equal to that pertaining to normal operation with the maximum cooling
water supply temperature specified, but not lower than the set point of the oil systems
supply temperature control valve.

Motors shall be equipped with one local temperature indicator per bearing. Such
indicators shall be of the dial type, mounted on the motor enclosure or in the drain oil
piping.

All horizontal motors shall have two proximity-type vibration pickups per-bearing. The
shaft surfaces, pickups and signal conditioning equipment shall be Seller-provided.
Monitoring shall be provided by the party having unit responsibility. Runout shall be
recorded at least every 150. This information shall be reported to the Buyer, and this
operation shall also be available for observation by the Buyer.

All vertical motors shall have one 3-axis, API 678-conforming accelerometer-type
vibration detector at the top of the bearing housing, with the monitoring and protection
system supply again resting with the party having unit responsibility.

21. ACCESSORIES AND MISCELLANEOUS

Motors shall have provisions for differential relay protection as per section 7.8 of this
specification, as well as including the surge capacitors and lightning arrestors of that
article. These requirements shall not apply to inverter-fed motors, which are provided with
a full protection through the converter.

Motors shall include the temperature detectors of section 6.0 of this specification; except
that motors rated over 4,000 kW shall have three detectors per phase.

The control system shall preclude startup-caused over-temperature motor damage. This
may be achieved through use of a rotor temperature monitoring system which, if used,
shall be provided complete, except for baseplate junction box-to-control panel
interconnecting wiring and the receivers power supply. The required protection may
alternatively be achieved using a programmable logic controller (PLC), through monitoring

of acceleration period duration and the intervals between successive cold or hot start
attempts. The system shall, for either approach, cause a ready-to-start-permissive to be
inhibited until conditions are satisfactory for another startup attempt. If SUPPLIER
recommends the use of a PLC it must be stated in the offer and aal signal shall be wired
to a junction box so that the main control system of the plant will assume the functions.
The SUPPLIER shall include logic diagrams and/or control narrative in order to develop
the software in the Main Control System.

A field monitoring system shall be included and it shall consist of front-of-cabinet analog
meters for field voltage, field current and power factor, supplemented by a visual display
unit with the following data available for display:

- Current, each phase and 3-phase average

- Voltage, phases A-B, B-C and A-C

- Three-phase kW

- Three-phase kVARs

- PF

- Frequency

- Temperatures, each winding detector and each bearing detector

- All alarm setpoints

- Unbalance ratio

- Ground fault current

- Time until restart is permitted (ref. repeat-start blocking per section 21.0 above)

- All alarms and trips

- First-out trip

Permanently-installed tooling balls with protective covers shall be mounted adjacent to the
horizontal splitline at each bearing, for use in the event that checking the hot-condition
alignment is needed.
