PREFACE

I am the student of MASTER OF INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS. I have studied only theoretical

portion in classroom , but taking up this project work I experienced and understood very well , the

international business tactics through practical experience in its fullest sense. Under the practical

studies various aspects of international business taught.

Export business have given up most important in the developing country like India , which help

in earning the foreign exchanged revenue and as we knew that foreign exchange makes our

countries economy much stronger. Every year government of India takes corrective action &

productive measure to boost the growth rate of export business.

Marketing the goods in to other countries for the Export purpose involve the preparation of lot of

docs and satisfying the legal condition of particular country , which is not so much easy for every

company . So in this report I have tried to study on A study on export potential of Marble

Industry in India that makes the stronger business environment to profit maximization with

customer satisfaction with understanding the export business.

COMPANY PROFILE
REHMAN IMPEX PVT.LTD. established in the year 2008.

Rehman Impex is indulge in Processing and Export of Processing Machines


and all types of Dimensional and Decorative Stones such as

o Marbles

o Granites

o Sandstones

o Slates etc.

We export stones mainly to the several Gulf Countries i.e. Dubai, Oman, Abu
Dabhi, Muscat, Qatar and East and West Africa.

In addition to Dimensional stones manufacturing and exporting, Rehman


impex engages in consultancies and advices to the commercial complexes to
all its Exporting countries.

The company is looking forward for Import of stones and home interiors like
Curtains and decorative items.

Tax payable - The Second Schedule of Export Tariff, no
taxes are to be paid for exporting, rather
taxes such as sales tax etc. are reimbursed by
the govt. under the duty draw-back scheme ,
to promote exports.
Income Tax is to be paid on the net income
(net of all expenses and cost of goods
exported,during the year, as per income tax
rules) earned in the export transaction.

All India Granites & Stone Association: Promoting Indian Stone Industry

India has the potential to reach the number one position in exports
of natural stone products.

Taking note of the potential of the domestic and international natural stone industry, a few visionaries of stone industry
joined together and formed All India Granites and Stone Association (AIGSA) way back in 1983 to promote the natural
stones of India.

The sole object of the Association was to promote stones of India across the globe and to resolve the domestic
problems faced by the mining sector. It was not an easy task for them, as the mining sector, which was an unorganised
sector, faced many problems and challenges.

In the past 30 years, AIGSA has grown from strength to strength with the co-operation and support of its members.
During these 30 years, AIGSA has achieved many landmarks and has membership from all the sectors of the natural
stone industry of India.

Initially, 70-80 per cent of rough dimensional blocks were exported to Japan, Italy and other countries. Till 1990, many
countries did not know about Indian granite resources, as Indian blocks were processed in Italy and exported as Italian
products.
Now the Indian industry has acquired state-of-the-art technology in the field of processing. This technology is at par with
the technology employed in other parts of the world; and our products, which are well accepted all over the world, are
being used in many big projects across the globe. Today, India is exporting to more than 90 countries in the world.

AIGSA works as a bridge between the industry, the state and the central government. The Association has been
recognised by the government and has been nominated in various committees constituted by the central government
like Granite Development Council, Planning Commission and National Board of MSME, etc.

Due to the efforts made by AIGSA, the mining and processing sectors have developed considerably. We are currently
exporting 70-80 per cent of finished goods after value addition.

AIGSA has played a significant role in framing Granite Conservation and Development Rules (GCDR-1999) by ministry
of mines, government of India, for promotion of granite industry in the country. Each state had been following its own
rules, and AIGSA felt the necessity to bring a uniform rule in the country. GCDR 1999 was the first step to bring a
uniform policy for the granite industry in the country. It is unfortunate that in spite of AIGSAs effort to bring a uniform
policy, many states are still not following the GCDR rules, due to which the growth of granite industry has slowed down.

We would have changed the face of the Indian stone industry, had we received proper support from the central and
state governments.

AIGSA has lined up many programmes for the development of the Indian stone industry:
Establishment of training institute
Artisans park and artisans training programme
Testing laboratory
Research Centre
Exhibition and trade centre

Keeping these programmes in view, it was felt by the members that the Association should be referred to as federation,
not association, to get full co-operation from various local associations across the country and to get better recognition,
nationally and internationally, for the stone industry of India. Accordingly, All India Granites and Stone Association will be
renamed as Federation of Indian Granite and Stone Industry from 1st April 2014.
INDIAS MAJOR COMPETITIORS IN THE WORLD
To understand Indias position among other Marble producing the industry contributes 2.31% of
GDP and 16% of foreign exchange earnings. In addition to China, other developing countries are
emerging as serious competitive threats to India. Looking at export shares, Korea (6%) and Taiwan
(5.5%) are ahead of India, while Turkey (2.9%) has already caught up and others like Thailand
(2.3%) and Indonesia (2%) are not much furtherbehind.
The reason for this development is the fact that India lags behind thesecountries in investment lev
els, technology, quality and logistics. If India werecompetitive in some key segments it could serve
as a basis for building a modern industry, but there is no evidence of such signs, except to some
extent in the spinning industry.

OBJECTIVES

PRIMARY OBJECTIVES:
To analyze export perspective of Indian Marble Industry.

To understand contribution of Indian Marble Industry to economy.

To observe the procedure of exporting and its documentation and to perform the same.
To gain experience of all the documenting and marketing procedure of marble industries
and Indian EXIM Ports.

SECONDARY OBJECTIVES:

To understand current marketing trends of Marble industry.

To understand the external environment of Marble industry

To understand government policies of Marble industry.

LIMITATIONS

Every Study has its own limitations in terms of methodology and available Resources
for its conduction. This study was not exception and was carried out under the
following limitations :

1. The main limitation is that my study is based on Secondary data.


2. Highest incidence of sickness.
3. The plant and machinery and technology by a number of units are obsolete.
4. The cotton yield per hectare of land is very low in India.
5. The industry faces a number of other problems like power cuts,
infrastructural problems, lack of finance etc.
6. India has been facing severe competition from other countries like Taiwan,
South Korea, china and Japan.

My study is based on secondary data. Data source includes magzines, company broacher. Some
where I also used the primary data like observation.

FINDINGS & CONCLUSION


Exports of Indian Marble are increasing day by day which results in the increase of
foreign earnings

India has been facing severe competition from other countries like Taiwan, South

Korea, china and Japan

India is the second largest producer /exporter of Marble..

Indian Marble industry contribute 14% of the total industrial production, contribution to

nearly 11% of the total export.

The industry faces a number of problems like power cuts, infrastructural problems, lack

of finance etc.
Indian Marble industry is the third largest employment generator after agriculture.

It may be concluded that no doubt the country has benefited from the MFA phase out threats

of the open market condition have also become vibrant.

The removal of the quota system has brought the strong players in full swing. China

and Korea are the biggest threats to India.

In India the big firms are gaining from the phase out as they have the capacity to stand

boldly and fight the fierce competition.

On the other hand the medium and small firms are more vulnerable as they are finding

it difficult in survive in the tough competition.

Small scale exporters need further support from the government.

Lack of capital and technology has always been a big hurdle in India.

Our exporters are suffering badly from this limitation.

Though FDI limits have been raised but the share of Marbles sector is not that great. Yet

more capital is required for the sector.

We find lots of financial as well as technical support from the government but the

bureaucratic system spoils everything.

Exporters have to face long procedural steps before availing these benefits. How can they

spare so much time here when they have to concentrate on the market situation.

Very small scale firms find it most difficult to survive.


They can enlarge their scale either by merging or amalgamating together.
The Indian exporters need to be more responsive to the market requirements.
There is slow adaptability to the new market situation. They have to be more vigilant and

follow the market trends if they need to remain in the market for long period as strong

players.

SUGGESTION

1. Marble industry should increase its export & market share by tacking the aggressive

marketing strategy and promotional campaign.

2. Technology should be updated regularity as per requirements.

3. Proper management of power, resources &infrastructure would be helpful to lead success.

4. As upper class or rich people are already using decorative marbles and tiles so industry

should make its pricing strategy according to middle -income group as per target market.

5. Industry should prepare & project its brand through the latest electronic media advertisement

on internet; on popular satellite channels.

6. Industry should make use of print media financial (local & national) newspapers, magazines

(technical, national and international).

7. Frequency of advertisement must be increased because thats the best way to leave impact on

customers mind.
