COURSE SYLLABUS WRITING TEMPLATE 2017

COLLEGE : Engineering DEPARTMENT : Mechanical

COURSE CODE : ME 323/321D COURSE TITLE : Machine Elements II
FACULTY : Engr. Aldrin C. Bernardo
CONSULTATION HOURS : Lecture: 3 hours/week
Laboratory: 3 hours/week
COURSE DESCRIPTION:

The course deals with the study of structural components and mechanisms
that control movement in various ways such as gear trains, belt or chain drives,
linkages, cam and follower systems, including brakes and clutches. This course
aims to equip the mechanical engineering students with the fundamentals of
these design activities and give them necessary skills to prepare complete,
concise, and accurate calculation steps for machine elements.

LEARNING OUTCOMES (LO):

On completion of the course, the student is expected to be able to do the
following:

ATTRIBUTES OF IDEAL
LEARNING OUTCOMES (LO)
GRADUATE (AIG)
LO 1 - Identify with all the
components necessary for machine
elements and the function as each
component and as a whole
mechanical system
Highly competent LO 2 - Formulate and solve
engineering problems and apply
knowledge of mathematics and
science to solve mechanical
engineering problems

LO 3 Determine the importance of

Ethical professional practicing ethical behaviors to
learning and academic development.
LO 4 - Design a system, component
or process to meet desired needs
within realistic constraints, in
Service-oriented accordance with standards
LO 5 - Use techniques, skills, and
modern engineering tools necessary
for mechanical engineering practice
Contribute to countrys LO 6 - Understand the impact of
mechanical engineering solutions in a
sustainable growth and
global, economic, environmental, and

development social context
LO 7 - Design and conduct
experiments, as well as to analyze
and interpret data
LO 8 - Explain the mechanical
behavior of materials being used in
designing machines and structures
that will help the country and its
people attain progress.

After completing this course, the student must be able to:

1. Understand and familiarize with all the components necessary for machine
elements and the concepts and the use of machine elements in the design
and manufacturing field.
2. Acquaint with the knowledge and skills in understanding failure modes, better
design criterion for machine elements and the capability to design elements like
gear, belts, wire ropes, and chain.
3. The students can also develop an understanding of analysis tools of these
parts.

FINAL COURSE OUTPUT:

Final Examination. Final examination will assess the students knowledge
to the topics covered in the class discussion during the whole semester.
This will be the synthesis of all the topics which includes the application of
different techniques and interpretation of the results.

Research and Output: A study on machine elements and prototyping

machine with this components will serve as an actual application of
mechanical parts and elements in such a way that the system will work as
desired outcome. The student will submit a compilation of all the activities,
term examinations, and problem sets (evaluated using the rubric below)
as the final course output.
