Read the story below and answer the questions that follow.

Thomas Edison is one of the greatest inventors in history. He was born on 11th February

1847 in the United States of America. He went to school but he did not do well. In the end, he was
taught at home by his mother.

Edison was a very hardworking young man. He sold vegetables, candies and newspapers
on trains. One day, he saved a child from a moving train and the childs father thanked him. He

repaid Edison by training him to be a telegraph operator. Since then, he became interested in
communications, which later became one of his areas of invention.

One of his first major inventions was a machine that was able to record and play back
sound. It was called the phonograph. According to Edison, Mary Had a Little Lamb was the

first nursery rhyme recorded using the phonograph.
