Your Honorable Judge Fishburn,
My name is Tavares Buchanan | am offering this summary of my faults, behavior, and
accomplishments and the reasons that | belleve that | am ready for community correction or state
probation. On 12 25, 2015 | found myself in a predicament that | know I have to be held accountable for
‘and that | am not taking lightly. The choices | made on that day and the actions taken have hurt many
people but most ofall my children’s mother, my children, and my family. In retrospect, | see that | could
tnd should have simply walked away from this situation and given myself ample time to cool down and
think instead of reacting impulsively Because of my choices, | brought shame and disappointment to my
entire family especially my mother whose health is in rapid decline because of diabetes. During my
incarceration, | have been a willing participant and successfully completed the following programs
1) SAME. (Sheriffs Anti Violence Education)
2). Vietims impact
3). Thinking for a change
4). fe skills
5) New Avenues
6) AANA classes
7), Horticulture class
Being in an environment such as jail, a person is subjected to a mix of many personalities, emotions, and
stressors from being separated from family and loved ones. It is a breeding ground for violence, hostility,
‘and disrespect | have been able to avoid confrontation with other inmates and officers by utlizing some
oF the skills | have learned in the S.A.V.E. program and by focusing on God and my spirituality. | haven't
received any disciplinary infractions and | have passed my drug screens, As an inmate here | have carried
myself in a very civilized fashion, maintaining a high quality of character Your Honor, | am asking the
Court to take into consideration the fact that | haven’t had any criminal charges in the previous 11yrs. |
have been a hardworking, tax paying citizen and a responsible father, son, and provider. | believe ! can
and will become a more productive member of society and for this 1 am asking the court for a
suspended sentence. My children have been impacted the most; they have been so worried about my
Absence that their grades, day to day lives as well as their emotional and mental health have suffered. |
truly believe that | can use some of the key points | have learned from the programs to teach them
home to improve their ives and outlook on relationships so hopefully they won't make same mistakes |
have made. | have been blessed by God to have the love and support from my family and close friends. |
humbly ask the court for this one chance to become, once again, a successful, productive member of
society and hopefully make a positive impact on the lives of everyone I come into contact with. Thank
You.
Sincerely, Tavares Buchanan
