What are the Institution Admission Requirements?


UBCs admission requirements vary by program. However, as mentioned below, to join the UBC
MD undergraduate program, you must enroll in another undergraduate program for at least 3 years.
I chose that to be science combined major, and the requirements to join that is to complete Physics
and Chemistry 11, a language 11 (or waiver), an approved socials course, English 11 and 12 (at least
70%), Pre-cal 11 and 12 (at least 67%), Foundations of Math 12, one of bio, chem, geo, or phiz 12,
and another approved Grade 12 course. Grade 12 minimum average must be 70%. If I decide to
continue with the IB program, I must have my math SL or HL at a minimum of 3, and finish IB
Science course.

What are the Program Admission Requirements?

To apply to the program, I (a BC resident) must have a university grade average of 75% or higher,
must have 90 university credits (around 3 years), and my English in IB must be HL and above 5.
Then I also need to take the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT), and have a minimum score
of 124. I do not need to apply for med school right away, as the MCAT score lasts 4 years.

What steps must I complete to be eligible for this program?

1. Get my grades up to UBC Science standard

2. Take UBC Science Undergraduate (4 years)

3. Take MCAT

What can I expect to learn in this program?

I can expect to learn Subjects important to the practice of medicine in the first two years, as
UBCs website puts it. In the third and fourth years, I would be working/learning at hospitals by
experience, such as looking into patients.

After I have completed this program what future employment and career opportunities
exist?

Technically speaking, the only career opportunity I get by completing the MD Undergraduate
Program alone is taking a residency, in which in BC have a first-year salary of $48k. However,
choosing family medicine, I only need to take 2 years of residency, in which after, I can work at a
hospital or a medical clinic for a salary between $50k and $150k.
