MeWherter, SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES APPROVED: = April 13, 1973 Winfield Dunn, GOVERNOR SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 54 By Henry A RESOLUTION to call for the procurement of a bust of General Nathan Bedford Forrest to display in a niche in the Great Hall on the second floor of the Capitol. WHEREAS, Tennessee’s greatest military hero on the federal side during the War between the States was Admiral Farragut, a bust of whom occupies a niche on the second floor of the Capitol; and WHEREAS, General Nathan Bedford Forrest was Tennessee’s greatest military hero in that conflict on the Confederate side, but no bust of him is on display in the Capitol; and 2108 PUBLIC ACTS, 1973 [Resolutions WHEREAS, There is an empty niche on the second floor of the Capitol which would be appropriate for the display of a bust of General Forrest; and WHEREAS, Jo Johnston Camp No. 28 of the Sons of Confederate Veterans has evidenced a desire to procure an appropriate bust of General Forrest for display in such niche; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE EIGHTY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING, . That the ‘Tennessee Arts Commission is requested and directed to work with Jo Johnston Camp No. 28 of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, and any other person or organization which may be interested, toward procurement of a suitable heroic bust of General Nathan Bedford Forrest for display in an appropriate niche on the second floor of the Capitol. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Tennessee Arts Commission report to the next session of the General Assembly its progress in obtaining such a bust at that time and give its recommendations on how the work can be furthered, in case the bust is not on hand on or before the first day of the next session of the General Assembly.
