Experiment No: 2

Name of the Experiment: Design and calculation of power system network.

Objectives:

Introduction:
Power generates from power station of 11KV, and voltage is stepped up by step up transformer
to high voltage to transmit long distance due to the minimizing of line loss. On the contrary for
using in appliances the voltage is stepped down by step down transformer in realistic level.
Different every steps of power equipment have its own loss i.e. generator loss, transformer loss,
bus loss, line loss etc. Due to the change of the load on line the reactive power is varied as a
result the active power also is changed. To compensate a certain percentage of reactive power,
shunt capacitor is used which is connected in the transmission line. Another most important issue
is reactive power compensation. Basically it is done in generation station and load terminal and
also in transmission line in case of long distance.

Losses:

Generator loss: 0.2%,

Bus loss: 0.05%,

Transformer loss: 0.1%,

Line loss: 0.15%

Find the value of current in each bus to consider the losses and find the value of capacitor
in case of reactive power compensation.

Procedure:

1. Find the total generation of power and calculate the current (must consider the
generator loss).
2. Calculate the current in secondary side of the transformer1.
3. Similarly calculate the current in secondary side of all transformer.
4. Calculate the current in the static loads and reactive power compensation 80% of
the remaining current.
