Charge Description: On or about July 17, 2017, in the County of Ramsey, Minnesota, Anthony Charles
Deberry did having knowledge of not being entitled thereto, take from the person or in the presence of
another personal property, and used or threatened the imminent use of force against a person to
overcome resistance to or compel acquiescence in the taking or carrying away of the property, and while
committingtherobberyinflictedbodilyharmuponanother.

 STATEMENTOFPROBABLECAUSE

OnJuly17,2017,at2353hours,St.PaulpolicerespondedtoHotRodsBarandGrillat1553University
AvenueinSt.Paul,RamseyCounty,Minnesota,onareportofarobbery.

Policemetwiththevictim,whoidentifiedhimselfasaJB,DOB11/27/1978.Hestatedthathearrivedat
HotRodsatabout2100hourswithsomeacquaintances.Hewenttousetherestroomandwas
approachedbyamale,whopunchedhiminthefacetwicewithaclosedfistandtookhiswalletcontaining
$700incash,creditcardsandadriverslicense.Thatmaleranoutthereardoorandfledinavehicleof
unknownmakeandmodel.

Hedescribedthesuspectasablackmalewithlightskin,longdreads,alight-coloredshirt,blackjeansand
ablackbaseballhat.

AbaremployeetoldpolicethatthesuspectisaregularwhogoesbythenameofPeanut.

OnJuly18,2017,afemalewaswalkingherdogsinthemorningandfoundJBswalletanditscontents
scatteredonthegroundinthestreet.Themoneywasmissing.

PolicefollowedupwithJBwhohadgonetotheemergencyroom.Hewasdiagnosedwithamild
concussion.Healsohadasmallraisedbumpabovehislefteyebrow.

Policealsospoketoawitnesswhostatedthatshesawtheentireincident.ShesawJBgointothe
restroom.Thedoorwasajarandshecouldseestraightintothebathroom.JBwasstandingattheback
stall.ThesuspectpunchedJBtwiceinthehead.Themalethenranoutofthebathroomandouttheback
door.ThewitnessstatedthatJBdidnotdoanythingtoprovoketheattack.ShenotedthatJBexhibited
behaviorsconsistentwithcerebralpalsy.

TheJBisanationallyknowncomedianwhogrewupinMinnesota.Therobberyreceivedsomemedia
coverageandthepolicereceivedinformationfromconcernedcitizens.Theyprovidedinformationleading
toasuspectidentifiedasthedefendant,AnthonyCharlesDeberry,DOB04/18/1982.

PolicecomparedsurveillancevideofromHotRodstoabookingphotoofthedefendantanddetermined
thatthephotographsmatched.

Policeissuedapickupandholdforthedefendant.

OnAugust29,2017,policearrestedthedefendant.Inapost-Mirandainterview,thedefendantadmitted
therobbery.HestatedthathewasatHotRodsandencounteredJBintherestroom.HefeltthattheJB
disprespectedhim,sohepunchedhimintheheadandtookapproximately$79fromhispantspocket.He
deniedthathepunchedJBtwice.Hedeniedthathetookhiswallet.

ThedefendanthasapriorconvictionforAggravatedRobberyintheFirstDegreein2008.
