UNDERAPPRECIATED
Of the six sessions, only three were released at
the time. It's Time, Action and Right Now count
among the records that were as good as it gets,
hut for some reason they were ignored. It wasn't
inilil the late 1970s that Jackknife and High
Frequency were packaged together as the double
album Jackknife, while Consequences, the
remaining date, was released even later.
The mystery is, how did these records get
so little attention, when the music on them is
impossible to overlook? It's nothing less than
gorgeous, insistent, solid hard bop, but with a
new flavor.
And when Jackie solos, you're hearing real
statements. Coherent, sharp, personal. Beauti
fully fashioned and complete, his playing swings
from beginning to end.
This important period in Jackie's long
career includes some of his best and least recog
nized music, from an artist who has always been
a personal favorite of us here at Mosaic. We are
happy to present it all as it happened, complete
and in chronological order.
