Case 3: THE DILEMMA: Goodbye, Jimmy, Goodbye

Questions:

1. Is there anything wrong with the manner the shortlist was prepared by Gloria?
2. What do you suggest regarding the preparation of the shortlist?

Answer:

After reading the case, I could say that something is definitely wrong with the way Gloria
prepared the shortlist. This is because she used her personal feelings in deciding who to exclude
from the list. At the same time, I think she also judged the applicants based on where they are
from which is really wrong if she is to be professional in making her decisions. Ms. Gloria
Tadino, as a recruitment supervisor of the HRMO company must really put in effort to analyze
the applications. It is also a must for her to evaluate each of the applicants based on the standards
given by the company. Furthermore, I think that she should set aside her personal feelings and
biases because it might prejudice other applicants.

I believe that in the preparation of the shortlist, Ms. Gloria should be professional in
performing her duties and responsibilities so that she could be an effective employee and to
contribute to the betterment of the company. She should prepare the shortlist according to what
the company is really looking for someone who is 21 to 26 years old, must be a graduate of
Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and a resident of Manila. As recruitment supervisor,
she should assess each applicant based on their credentials without mixing her personal feelings
and interests. As for the company, I think that they should be careful in putting certain people in
a position like that of Ms. Tadino because the positions is a crucial one and plays a big part in the
success of the company.
