Here WEE Grow Again is looking for a strong volunteer force to assist with our
upcoming Fall sale! Have you ever thought of volunteering with the sale? It is
a lot of fun and provides us the opportunity to meet hundreds of people from
the Charlottesville community who come through our doors as shoppers,
consignors and volunteers. We have both women and MEN who volunteer!

 Disciple I: New Bible Study Opportunity
Do you want to know more about the Bible, what it says, and what it means
for your life today? Do you have unanswered questions about the nature of
God and your relationship to God? Do you struggle with what it means to
be a disciple of Jesus Christ? If you answered yes to any of those questions,
then Disciple Bible Study may be for you. Disciple I is an in-depth study in
which each participant reads 80% of the Bible in 34 weeks and attends a
two-hour discussion group each week. This new group will begin meeting
here at Aldersgate every Tuesday evening from 7-9 p.m. beginning
September 12. The study is designed for a group no larger than 12-14
people. Here is what Disciple says about itself: In Disciple I Becoming
Disciples Through Bible Study, persons grow in understanding their lives
biblically as they respond to the invitation to become committed disciples.
The goals for this ministry are:
For all class members to become more biblically literate
and spiritually nourished disciples.
To develop devoted church leaders and lay members.
To learn how to witness about ones faith to others
and to live as disciples of Jesus Christ.
To build stronger churches.
This is clearly a long-term commitment of time and study, but the rewards
are many. If you feel a call to deepen your relationship to God, please

HURRICANE HARVEY RELIEF
In response to the massive destruction and devastation caused by
Hurricane Harvey in Texas and Louisiana, the United Methodist
Committee On Relief is asking for monetary donations. This money will
help with the process of rebuilding, bringing in supplies, and any other
resources that the communities may need. The pain and loss that
victims feel will continue long after the water recedes and clean up
begins. If you would like to make a monetary contribution, please make
your check to AUMC with Hurricane Harvey Relief in the memo line.
And, please pray for your brothers and sisters in Christ as they deal with
their losses.
New Sunday morning opportunity
for adults of all ages
This new adult class will begin with a study of Adam Hamilton's book Half
Truths: God Helps Those Who Help Themselves and Other Things The
Bible Doesn't Say. With Hamilton we will look at simple phrases we have
all heard, phrases that sound Christian, like something you might find in
the Bible. We've all heard these words, maybe even said them. These
words capture some element of truth, yet miss the point in important
ways. In this study we will join together to search for the whole truth by
comparing these common Christian clichs to the message and ministry
of Jesus. This study will begin on Sunday, September 24 at 10:00 in the
Fellowship Hall (Ground Floor). Please email Pat MacNicoll at

Music Groups are Rehearsing!
Join in leading Gods praise
Aldersgates Music Ministry is a vibrant part of our worship services.
All ability levels are encouraged to participate. Where might YOU fit in?
Aldersgate Ringers Our year begins in September (the week of Labor
Day) and ends in June. We rehearse weekly on Tuesday evenings from 6
to 7:15pm, and we provide our musical offerings about every six weeks.
All ages are welcome. Experience is preferred but not required. The
choir is active September through May.
Chancel Choir (adult choir) rehearses on Wednesdays at 7:30 pm in the
Sanctuary.
Instrumental Ensemble rehearses on Mondays at 6pm in the Sanctuary.
Joyful Noise Singers (childrens choir) rehearses during Childrens
Sunday School.
Youth Praise Band rehearsals are on Sundays from 3:15-4:45. For more

 Director of Childrens Ministries
Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Charlottesville, Virginia seeks a
part-time (10-15 hours per week) Director of Childrens Ministries. As a
member of Aldersgates staff, the Director of Childrens Ministries works
closely with the lead pastor and the churchs ministry teams, especially
the Childrens Ministry Team, to plan, implement, support, and advance
opportunities for children (infant through elementary school-age) and
their families to experience Christ and grow in faith and fellowship.
Qualified applicants should possess a bachelors degree as well as passion
and relevant experience working with children in an engaging Christian

Acolyte Recognition Sunday

The Acolyte program is designed as a Youth Leadership Development
Ministry. It is open to youth from 12th Grade to second semester 4th
Grade and young adults wishing to serve. An Acolyte does more than
just light a candle, they are worship leaders. They are knowledgeable of
the altar, Order of Worship and the rituals that support our worship as
believers in Jesus Christ. Each of these acolytes have spent countless
hours preparing to serve including a 3-hour training class and 3 weeks of
Sunday training to become the fine group of worship leaders you see
before you today!

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR BACKPACK PROGRAM
At 6pm on Wednesday evenings during the school year, volunteers go to
Greer Elementary School and pack approximately 130 bags of food for
underserved families within the Greer community. The food is taken home
by students on Fridays. The families who receive this food may not
otherwise have adequate food resources for the weekend. We are in need
of volunteers to help with this program. Your time commitment is 30
minutes once a month. Please consider being the hands and feet of Jesus

United Methodist Men
Our first supper meeting of the new fall season will be on Thursday, Sept.
14th at 6:30 pm, in Aldersgate's Wesley Parlor. We welcome new
members and regular visitors to Aldersgate. We'll be planning a busy fall
program with our garden and flower bulb sale on Oct. 20-22 which may be
our big fundraiser for the year. This time, since Merrill will be out of town
on business, please contact Bruce Draper and or Stewart Chang if you plan
to attend this meeting. We will be discussing and directing a purchase of
another AED unit for the church and spring activities.

Visiting Today: Fred and Ruby Amoah-Darko
Today, we welcome Fred and Ruby Amoah-Darko, our missionary friends
from Accra, Ghana. Fred is Regional Director for Africa for AFCI,
Ambassadors for Christ International. Ruby and Fred focus their efforts on
planting churches and training pastors and other church leaders in sub-
Saharan Africa. Most recently, training was conducted in South Africa and
Zambia. Future plans include Zimbabwe, Ghana and South Africa. Ruby
leads sessions on Becoming a Godly Woman, a program primarily for
pastors wives, while Fred teaches Eschatology and Advanced Bible Study
Methods for pastors and other leaders. Fred will be participating in both
services and Fred and Ruby will be at Sip-n-Chat between the services,
from 10:00 - 11:00 am.
