Excavation Methodology

1.0 Activity Steps

1.1 Plan Review

1.1.1 The Engineers-in-Charge under the direction of OIC reviews the latest
issued For Construction Drawings (FCD). Their major concerns are
the layouts and elevations pertaining excavation.

1.1.2 In case of clarifications or missing data, the Engineer-in-charge

queries through a Request for Information (RFI) to the Structural
Consultant. The procedure for the appropriate documentation shall be
observed by him, monitored by the Document Controller and checked
by the Quality Control Engineer.

1.2 Excavation Methodology

1.2.1 Prior to commencement of any excavation work, a level survey

will be carried out to confirm the information included on the
contract drawings and to provide an accurate record of existing
ground levels for the calculation of quantities. Surveyor would
conduct the site survey to mark/stake-out the lines and levels of
the objective excavation for foundations as per indicated in the
approved drawings. The depth of excavation shall be
periodically checked by a surveyor to avoid over excavation.

1.2.2 Temporary Sum pit will be placed near excavation area (see
FIGURE 1.0) for dewatering and will be pumped out going to the
siltation chambers.

1.2.3 Construction of Siltation Chamber as part of dewatering

process.(see attached FIGURE 1.1)
1.2.4 Pumps are placed in the sump pits and water is pumped out
leading to the Siltation Chamber where mud water is filtered
through 3 chambers sloping down to the outflow to the nearest
disposal. Dewatering of excavation area will be continuous all
throughout the excavation process. Temporary outflow to the
road drainage will be utilized until outflow to the Mactan Channel
will be approved.
1.2.5 Once the site is free of water, bulk excavation will commence.
1.2.6 Excavation will commence at Phase 1 at Mat Footing 2 (see
Figure 2.0). Simultaneously, excavation for Tower Crane at
Podium footing will commence. Moreover, sheet piling will also
simultaneously commence for slope protection at road access in
between Block 2 and Block 7.
1.2.7 Pile hacking shall commence as soon as bored and driven piles
are visible at its required depth.
1.2.8 Once Mat Footing 2 Phase 1 is done excavation works will
move to Mat Footing 2 Phase 2 and as soon as sheet piling will
be finished excavation will commence at Mat Footing 2 Phase
3.
1.2.9 Once excavation of Mat Footing 1 Phase 1 will be finished
excavation at Mat Footing Phase 2 and 3 will commence
simultaneously.
1.2.10 Excavation at podium will commence as per schedule starting
from Phase 1, to Phase 3.
1.2.11 For every area done with excavation, pile hacking, foundation
structural works will commence.
1.3 Sheet Piling Methodology
1.3.3 Prior to commencement of any sheet piling work, the Line and
Grade Engineer shall provide layouts for staking and elevations
at the sheet piling area for excavation. (see attached keyplan)
1.3.4 Using a backhoe with a vibratory hammer attachment, 7m
sheet piles are driven following the layout A telescopic crane
will also be assisting for the alignment of sheet piles.
1.3.5 Once the sheet piles are completely embedded, partial
excavation can now commence at Mat Footing 2 until 3 meters
depth.
1.3.6 Upon reaching the said elevation excavation at the back portion
of sheet piles will be made with sloping going to existing road
(see attachment) to ease up the load to avoid over turning.
1.3.7 Once the completed excavation may commence up to its
required depth

1.4 Safety
1.3.1 Safety Officers shall study and provide safety signage and cautionary
tapes around excavation areas.
