Re commendations and co mme nts on EN 694:2001

NA.1 Introductio n
This nationa l annex complements EN 694 and provides additiona l information for UK
users.

NA.2 Type of hos e

The type, class and size plus the required colour of the hose should be selected and stated
according to Clause 4, Clause 5 and Clause 6 of this European Standard.
In the United Kingdom it is recommended that the preferred hose should be of Type A,
Classes 1 to 4, with an internal diameter of 19 mm or 25 mm. The recommended colour
of the hose cover is red.

NA.3 Hose ree l s yste ms

The hose forms part of the hose reel systems for installa tion in buildings and other
construc tion works, as detailed in BS EN 671-1:2001.
For hose assemblies, the type of coupling to be fitted is also specified in
BS EN 671-1:2001.

NA.4 Pressures
The United Kingdom would a lso like to draw attention to the fact that the maximum
working pressure, proof specified in Table 4 of this European Standard are lower than
those previous ly specified in BS 3169:1986, Table 2.
BS 3169 specified a maximum working pressure of 15 bar (1,5 MPa), a proof pressure of
24 bar (2,4 MPa) and a minimum burst pressure of 48 bar (4,8 MPa).
