Development of banking and financial system through E-Banking in India

Introduction

Technology has entered into every sphere of the life and financial sector is no
exception to them. The transition of old banking system to e-banking system is known as
innovative banking. In today's competitive banking world various developments have taken
place in Indian Banking. Among the various developments, technology has influenced the
way customer interacts with banks. Electronic channels and products such as ATMs, cards,
internet banking and mobile banking are offered along with traditional branch channel.
Evidence suggests that there is a shift from traditional channel to electronic channels. Thus in
India, Banking Companies offers so many changes to access their banking and other services.
Electronic banking is an important aspect in todays life. Every transactions carried out by
banks are computerized which has made working easier. Number of staff is reduced; most
functions carried by man are now carried by machines. Moreover, globalization and
liberalization of services has encouraged bankers to adopt new technology which even
customer prefers. The risk associated with technology has complicated the story of
introduction of e-banking. Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has from time to time issued circulars
and notification for the smooth functioning of banking.

Hence through this research paper the aim is to understand the legal provision
governing the e-banking. Further the main aim is to understand the interpretation of courts
through different case laws on e-banking.

Hypothesis: This paper tries to list out the merits and demerits of e-banking and finds out
how it has progressed so far and how it would do it in the future.

Methodology

This research paper is doctrinal in nature. The concept of e-banking has shown a
major development in the Indian banking system, thus the evolution of the banking system
from the past to the e-banking system will be the main objective of this paper.
