articles to voters during this budget cycle. And
then for the final vote in March 2018. But,
before that question for approval gets to the
voters, there will be more refinement of the
numbers, with some decisions which were
presented to the school Monday night being
answered by the board at their special meeting
next Monday the 18th. Those decisions could
add roughly $1.96 million to the project.
As presented at the Monday night meeting,
the first warrant article is for the Palmer CTE
project, which has a hard construction cost of
$20.3 million and an engineering, furnishings,
contingencies and other soft costs of $4.7
million for a total of $25 million. The state

A School Recycling Program Worthy of Praise

Two years after it opened in 2000, Campbell High
School in Litchfield began a modest recycling program.
For most schools this is hardly headline news, but for
Campbell High School, it became a launch pad that

has helped to integrate environmental sustainability
into the schools curriculum.
We started out recycling paper. We also collected
aluminum cans, cardboards, and some plastics, said

program during his travels as a sustainability lecturer to
schools and business groups throughout Northern New

we do to promote recycling, Dube said. He recently
got a first-hand view and was very impressed.
They have an aluminum can baler and Ive never
seen a baler at a school. They go way beyond
from what most schools are doing, he said. The
enthusiasm of the students and the effort they make is
amazing. They are instilling attitudes and habits that
will last a lifetime.
Dube also took notice at the dozens of small things
the students do and their attention to detail. Students
involved in the program will collect leftover water from
plastic water bottles into a cistern which is then used to
water plants around the school. They also remove the
bottoms from tin cans to flatten them entirely pretty
advanced stuff, he said.
As another example of how far C.R.A.P. has evolved,
Dube was on hand when the program received a $200

Remember Hudson When ...

Sunnyside Cemetery on Central Street
Hadley in June 1846 was slightly over half an acre. The
land was purchased for $13 and an additional $257 to
Ethan Willoughby for the construction of the stone wall
which enclosed the yard with an entrance off Central Street.
There were two additional land purchases, one in 1885
and the second in 1910. After the first purchase the stone
wall was moved to include the parcel within the bounds of
the yard. At the present time this small cemetery contains
2.817 acres shaded from the canopy of maple trees.
According to Kimball Webster in his History of Hudson,
the first meeting of the Hudson Cemetery Association was
held at the home of Ethan Willoughby on Central Street,
Dec. 6, 1845. At this meeting the cemetery was organized,
and the articles of association were signed by Ethan
Willoughby, Paul Colburn, Cyrus Warren, Nathan Marshall,
William Hadley, David Clement, David Burns, Abiather
Winn, Mark Willoughby, Benjamin A. Merrill, and William
Blodgett. It was also agreed to purchase the original 200
by 113 feet original parcel for the cemetery. No record of
any subsequent meeting for several years; however, business
was conducted and the land was purchased, lots laid out,

As the town grew and burial space in the older cemeteries became
limited, the need for Sunnyside Cemetery arose. According to the
incorporation papers the legal name of this yard is The Hudson
Cemetery. The Sunnyside Cemetery, as it is commonly referred
to, is located on the north side of the highway at 98 Central St.
According to records, the original yard purchased from William
Cummings on April 8, 1851. By 1885 all the lots in the
cemetery had been sold and during that same year a second land
purchase of one acre was added to the cemetery on the east side and
the wall was moved so as to enclose it. The new ground was laid
out into lots and the size of the cemetery more than doubled. By
1908 all the lots in this section had been sold. Again in 1910, a half
acre was purchased from George Marshall, allowing expansion to
the rear of the cemetery. This land was subsequently improved and
laid out into lots, all of which have been sold.
Sunnyside is an attractive cemetery with a convenient location.
It contains a number of expensive and interesting monuments. To
me, the most elaborate monument is that for the families of Kimball
Webster and his brother Nathan. This monument greets you on the
right as you enter the yard. The most interesting monument is that
for Joseph Fuller (1818-1896) and his wife, Belinda Steele (1823-
1891). This metal monument is shown in our second photograph
and resembles a fireplace. It is on the right side of the yard about
halfway to the rear.
Unfortunately, the surrounding area does not include any
possibility for expansion. It has become the final resting place
for many of Hudsons families such as Baker, Batchelder, Chase,
Colburn, Cummings, Davis, Gould, Hadley, Holmes, Martin,
Marshall, Pollard, Sanders, Sargent, Stearns, Steele, Willoughby,
Winn, and Webster. At the present time, the management of
Sunnyside Cemetery in handled by Fred Fuller.

Hudson Clerks Unable to Process Vehicle Transactions

The State Department of Motor Vehicles will be switching over
to a new computer system over the Columbus Day weekend.
Beginning Friday, Oct. 6 through Tuesday, Oct. 10, no town will
be able to process any motor vehicle transactions. The Town of
Hudson office will remain open for other transactions (vital records,
taxes) but on reduced staff. The New Hampshire DMV sent out
the following press release advising people to complete their motor
vehicle transactions prior to these dates, especially those who have
20-day plates that may expire during this time.
The NH Department Division of Motor Vehicles will implement a
new driver licensing system in October to replace the current system
originally implemented in the 1980s. Implementation of the new
system will require the closure of all DMV offices on Monday, Oct. 9
and Tuesday, Oct. 10 and will temporarily limit some services.
Although temporarily closing DMV offices is required during this
transition time, we are aware of how the closure will impact our
customers, said DMV Director Elizabeth Bielecki. Hopefully, by
proving advanced notice, we will minimize the inconvenience this
closure will cause.
During the transition:
Town/City Municipal clerks will not be able to process the
state portion of vehicle registrations from Friday, Oct. 6
through Tuesday, Oct. 10
Online services, including Online Driver License Renewal
and Online Ticket Pay, will not be available from Wednesday,
Oct. 4 through Wednesday, Oct. 11.
Ticket pay by phone will not be available on Monday, Oct. 9
and Tuesday, Oct. 10. To pay a ticket by phone on another
day during normal business hours, call 1-800-272-0036.
Customers are encouraged to complete DMV transactions
regarding driver licenses and registrations in advance of expiration
dates if they expire during the transition period. In the days
following implementation of the new system, customers may
experience longer than usual wait times and are asked to plan their
visit accordingly.

The Word Around Town...

Its Tough to be Wrong and Not Know it
Our former NH Senator, Bob Clegg has decided he would rebut my letter to
the editor of the HLN, submitted on Sept. 1, 2017, concerning private police
detail for a controversial project, the Merrimack Valley Reliability Project, a
high voltage transmission project adding 345 kv of electricity to an already
overcrowded alleged right of way on private property of many! I had complained
about HPD and its police officers being paid by Eversource/National Grid and
their subcontractors to watch what I perceive as criminal activity. I had claimed
that the applicants lied to get their certificate and the NH SEC overlooked these
lies, did not do their job and issued the Certificate anyway!
Mr. Clegg has called me a liar using his own blatant, outrageous lies!
Mr. Clegg has accused me of defamation. Defamation involves lies. This is an
act he has managed to so eloquently engage in himself!
I have not lied about the acts of Eversource, National Grid, their
subcontractors and witnesses, nor the NH SEC. I have not lied about the HPD
providing private detail for this controversial project. I have the evidence to show
all of my claims! I have cast my opinion about what this evidence looks like to
me using the standard definitions of the words I use!
I have defended the lives and property of myself, my family and my neighbors in
a formal process that is afforded to me by law!
Mr. Clegg chose to group my legal, well intentioned acts to formally intervene
in the project by comparing my acts with the numerous groups popping up
across the country protesting similar major controversial/corrupt energy projects.
By doing so, he has inferred that I too have the same views and have committed
the same acts as these groups!

the docket/project is about! He claims he has heard my testimony for the MVRP
which I submitted in writing. He supports the project and condemns my activity
despite well documented negative effects the project can and is having on public
health and many other areas!
Mr. Clegg claims I called 911 because of a back-up alarm sound. I called 911
because of loud banging noise from the construction site in an environmentally
sensitive area next to already existing high voltage transmission lines, at 7 a.m. I
could hear and feel the noise, four houses away from the site. The experience was
causing pain to my head and sent my heart rate souring. I had concerns about
the integrity of the existing high voltage transmission lines. HPD dismissed my
concerns as a valid emergency. They decided that it wasnt an emergency and did
not rush to my call!
I simply cant comprehend how anyone, with any intelligence, heart or soul,
that has read the docket, could still possibly defend it and support it! (My
opinion.)

We are asking any interested residents of Litchfield to submit a letter of interest
outlining why you want to serve on the committee and what skills you bring to

a letter of interest and then appointing a new member at our next scheduled
meeting on Sept. 28.

Pastor Urges People of Faith to Come Forward
People of faith are holding Prayer Vigils on the mornings immigrants are
being called to appear at the Federal building, 275 Chestnut St. in Manchester.
Presbyterian church officials and the United Methodist Church Bishop,
Pastors of New Hampshire churches, and anyone willing to stand by in prayer
and support for those facing unjust deportation are encouraged to attend. A
Community Safety Network is being formed by the New Hampshire Solidarity
Network and Granite State Organizing Project. Why? Read on:
Sixty-nine Indonesians have lived in New Hampshire for years, faithfully
checking in with the Immigration and Customs Enforcement on a regular basis,
as required. They are Christians, having fled Islamic extremism in their country.
The families were fleeing persecution when they moved to New Hampshire in
Trump administration is ending this program, that protects these documented,
legal immigrants from deportation, a decision that is cruel and inhumane.
Our country should not hold children legally accountable for the actions of their
parents, Governor Sununu said. These documented immigrants have done
everything right they report regularly to Immigration Services, they are living
the same kinds of life as law-abiding citizens. They deserve to be afforded the
same opportunities as their peers. They should be allowed to pursue citizenship,
and be given encouragement and support to do so. The contributions of
immigrants form the backbone of our country.
This decision to deport them forces them to either go to a country they have
never known, or become illegals here, living the life of a fugitive. It drives
hundreds of innocent documented (legal) immigrants in the Granite State, and
hundreds of thousands across the country, into appalling, brutal choices that are
economic disasters for them and their families. These immigrants are required
to pay for their own airplane tickets to go to a country where they have no job or
home. Some of them are the breadwinners and home owners for their families
here in the U.S.A.; their children born here are citizens, so the children can
stay here, but without economic support. According to the U.S. Customs and
Immigration Service, 357 people with New Hampshire addresses received initial
approval under DACA. Nationally, 800,000 fall under DACA.
DACA and other immigrants are worried, fearing Immigration and Customs
Enforcement (ICE) will pick them up unannounced. Only citizens have the
right to counsel, so these immigrants may be, and have been, picked up any time,
any place, with no means of notifying family members. They just disappear.
Report a Raid cards are being distributed so that anyone who sees ICE picking
someone up in a parking lot or on the street, can call a number and someone will
rush down to get information to pass along to the family.
I urge everyone, every citizen (you are a person of privilege), especially people
of faith, to commit to prayer over unfair immigration. Some want to classify
deportations as being of illegal immigrants committing crimes, but that is not the
New Hampshire story.

A Cat is ... What is a Cat?
To my friends Ann and Bill, Hudson residents, and to others who had or have,
feline members of their families. Ann and Bill, just this past weekend, had to
endure the passing away of a cherished feline member of their family of 20 years;
Cleo had been adopted as an abandoned kitten with three other kittens 20 years
ago. I think it is generally thought that for a cat to live such a long life, especially
maybe as an abandoned kitten; is the exception and not the rule. So for my
friends Ann and Bill, I composed the following poetic story. If other readers
enjoy it and appreciate it; please feel free and I encourage them, to post follow-up

A Cat Is
(A poetic story to Ann and Bill)
They are simply more than, a cat,
I know, you both know, its a fact.
The Felines are more subtle, bout how they get to us,
Theyre always just around, no barking or fuss.
Our Felines often suddenly appear, with their smile,
From their favorite places where they slept awhile.
Sometimes we think Cats sleep a lot, we should be like them,
Cause thats a secret of dogs and cats, they know when.
They paws to rest, so to keep us company and watch out for,
Their two legged friends, til they scoot out the door.

help you work through these deep-rooted issues.
I know that you have no genuine feelings for your
laptop. Youre just being a flat out *******. This man
based his argument off of, well, if homosexuals can
get married; I should be able to marry a laptop.
You cant marry a laptop because a laptop cant
actually consent to marry you. You can program an
electronic device, but that device has no free will,
is not alive, and has no thought process of its own.
Therefore, it cant legally give consent.
Im also pretty sure that you wouldnt be able to
consummate the marriage without breaking the
laptop. If you can legally marry a laptop, then you
can be charged with murder of your laptop.
Who has enough time to sue the State of Utah
because he was told no over marrying a laptop? I
dont even have enough time to clean my room. This
man actually put the time in to build a case to sue
Utah. He hired lawyers. Get a job bro! Get some
friends, get a life, or volunteer. Maybe even get a real
girlfriend. We all know that you are just watching
porn on your fiancs screen. I dont know if this man
is religious, but if he is, I think watching porn is a sin.
I cant speak for the rest of the population, but I
think trying to marry a laptop is absurd. I think the
whole thing is a waste of time. If he wants to spend
his life on a crusade to marry his laptop, go for it. I
am sure he is destined to live a very miserable life on
his own.

three, but I see us as more likely being friends than
lovers.

Per a request from the selectmens chairman during Tuesday
nights meeting ... wait for it ... is the idea for a documentary
of the Hudson 9/11 Memorial on HCTV. An apt title could
be the Dave and Roger Show, or, more likely, the Roger
and Dave Show. While the idea is great and Hudson has
the largest memorial in New England, and most of Hudson
students were not even born in 2001, try to imagine how the cable
show might go. Roger standing behind Dave and moving Daves arms
and talking while Dave just moves his mouth. Well, enough thinking
about funny things. The Fox might burn too many brain cells with those
images.
Moving on to a serious conversation ... Harvey Construction, the
general contractor for the renovation of the Palmer CTE/Alvirne High
School and their numbers were presented to the school board. Not
enough positive can be relayed to the townspeople about this project,
with Principal Beals and CTE Director Karen Worthen working for over
the cost of college and the massive debt that most college graduates have

First NH Legislative Softball Classic
Set for Oct. 14 in Merrimack

lawmakers will be shifting their focus from their
legislative responsibilities at the State House to the
softball diamond on Saturday, Oct. 14, at 11 a.m.,
when theyll meet in the First Annual Legislative
Softball Classic at the Anheuser-Busch Athletic
Complex in Merrimack. The event is being sponsored
by the Veterans Interest Caucus and all proceeds
will go to Manchesters Liberty House, which assists
homeless veterans.
For more than a decade, Liberty House has been
providing a safe, supportive, substance-free housing
community for American veterans transitioning out of
homelessness. Since 2004, their dedicated team has
helped more than 200 homeless veterans rejoin their
communities and regain fulfilling, independent lives.
Modeled in part on Washington, D.C.s, annual
Congressional Baseball Game, the scheduled seven
inning contest is a bipartisan effort to bring lawmakers
together to have fun while generating funds for this
worthy cause.

The initial response to this idea has been 100
percent positive, said Rep. Mike Moffett (R-Loudon),
a Marine Corps veteran and member of the events
organizing committee. Its been fun working with
representatives from both sides of the aisle, as well as
contributors from the private sector, to make this game
a reality.
House Speaker Shawn Jasper applauded the
committee for pulling this event together. It is great
to see everyone stepping forward to help our homeless
veterans through the funds that this game will
generate. Representative Moffett and his committee
have done a superb job working on the details of
this game and I hope it is the first of many legislative
softball classics, said the speaker. Regardless of the
outcome of this classic, the ultimate winners will be
our homeless veterans, he added.

First State Convention since 1861

On Sept. 12, State Representative Jordan
Ulery will join delegates from across the nation
in Phoenix, Ariz., at the Balanced Budget
Amendment Planning Convention. This
assemblage will be the first national convention
of the states convened since 1861, when states
met to discuss an amendment they hoped would
avert civil war. The purpose of the upcoming
convention in Phoenix is to prepare for an
anticipated convention convened under Article
V of the U.S. Constitution to propose a balanced
budget amendment and to recommend a set of
rules under which such a convention would be
governed.
With the national debt hovering around the
$20 trillion mark, representing a dangerous 105
percent of GDP, many Americans are calling
for accountability in Washington through a
Balanced Budget Amendment. Since the federal
government has a long history of failing to
rein in spending, the Article V process offers
the collective states another way to propose

Lady Cougars Soccer Looks Strong

The Campbell High School girls soccer team
improved to 4-0-1 on the season with a tie against
Belmont (0-0) and a win against Derryfield (4-0) in
this past weeks action.
On Friday, Sept. 8, Campbell was looking to
avenge a 2-0 loss in last seasons quarterfinals
coming out of the gate strong against Belmont.
Senior striker Erin Douglas put early pressure on
Belmont however the defense and goaltender
were up to the task. Belmont found their legs
around the 10-minute mark and for the next 70
minutes the teams traded attacks that would stall
at the hands of each others defense. The game
went into overtime where most of the action
was played in the Belmont end of the field.
Campbells offense had chances to close out the
game but saw their shots blocked or just miss the
mark. Campbell goaltender Alicia Noury (junior)
made several key saves throughout the game, but
none was bigger than a shot with under a minute
left in the overtime where she had to back pedal
and tip the ball above the crossbar, preserving the
0-0 tie. Strong performances were turned in by

The Campbell cross country boys and
girls teams both grabbed first place at
a meet on Sept. 12 at the Alvirne home
course. The girls side included seven teams
with 46 runners. Leading the scoring team
was senior Caitlyn Callinan who came in
first, with freshman Cassie Hemming a close
second. Freshman Megan Whitnell came
in fifth overall with Riley Gamache in sixth.
In 14th place was Izzy Risitano, 15th place
was Liz Breton, and sophomore Michelle
Freeman finished in 16th place.
As for the boys, six teams with 87 runners
competed. Junior Jeffrey Allen was the
first scoring runner coming in third place
overall. The next two were sophomores,
sixth place went to Tyler Scopelites, and
Matthew Dion came in seventh place.
The next two seniors came in eighth, Luke
Hogan and 10th Trevor Gomes. Thirteenth

Albert Henry Cote, born Nov. 28, 1926, spent the final days of his
life the way he wanted, at his home surrounded by love and family.
The man with a few nicknames, the oldest brother of six boys, most
2017, at Elliott Hospital. Although Jaxson never spent any time with
us on earth he was very much loved and touched many lives. Our
little angel will never be forgotten.

She was born June 25, 1937, in Laconia, daughter of the late

Deanna was the wife of John Joyce of Hudson, with whom she
shared 63 years of marriage.

Alvirne XC Teams Take on Souhegan Relays

The boys and girls cross country teams
of Alvirne High School competed in the
Souhegan Relays in Amherst on Saturday,
Sept. 9.
Each of the three legs of a relay raced
the 4K at Freestyle Farm. The boys trio
of junior Justin Carbonneau, senior Will
Horgan, and freshman Paul Balletto
finished in fourth place with a time of
44:41. There was also a JV race in which
the boys team took third place. The girls
trio of junior Jessica Fontaine, sophomore
Ella Simpson, and senior Jenna Bradish
took third with a time of 51:06.
On Sept. 6, the Alvirne Broncos
competed in their first cross country meet
of the season on their home course and
took the win over Salem and Timberlane.
In the competition between the girls of
Alvirne and Salem, the Broncos scored 26
points over Salems 30. Between Alvirne
and Timberlane, Alvirne scored 21 points to

The Alvirne boys soccer team lost their matchup with Exeter last
Friday by a score of 5-1, dropping the Broncos record to 0-5, while
the Blue Hawks remained undefeated at 5-0.
Against an Alvirne team missing three starters due to injury, Exeter
came out firing early, scoring their first goal just 53 seconds into the
contest on a pinpoint cross and header. Exeter would again show off

chip over the defensive line, threading the needle between two
Bronco defenders and their goalie to the Exeter striker to finish off

are killing themselves so linebackers can make tackles. As for our offense getting over 400
yards, that means our O-line is blocking successfully.

Lady Cougars Kick Off Volleyball Season Victorious

Campbell volleyball kicked off their 2017 season in an
impressive way with three quality victories. The team is now
under the direction of Coach Melissa Miner. Miner has been
coaching volleyball since 1999 at a variety of levels including
JV, varsity USA Volleyball Junior Olympic and unified teams.
On Sept. 1, Campbell traveled to Epping where they had
a solid game and came away with a victory in three straight
sets, 25-16, 25-22, 25-22. At a few times in the second and
third set, Campbell fell behind, however, the girls fought back
Campbell came out strong in the first two sets, winning them
25-12 and 25-18. The team dropped the third set 12-25,
but came back to close out the victory 25-22 in the fourth.
Overall, I felt that we played strong all the way around. We
passed great, we served well and we attacked with strength,
said Coach Melissa Miner. Our defense was reading the
hitters and adjusting before the hits, so, in turn, we were
making great digs. Impressive performances included Gabi
Sott, one ace, nine kills, 10 digs; Cleo Schultz, 10 kills, three
