Pre-Production
Production:
Our short film is called Surge. This name links to the game mode that the protagonist
will be playing in his supposed dream. To advertise our product we are using social
media platforms such as Instagram and Twitter in order to promote it to audiences as
these social media sites are regularly used my by our target audience. Social media has
impacted many lives that are linked to our target audience therefore it is beneficial for
us to advertise our short films on them. We are planning to utilise the features of
YouTube in order to distribute our short film. This allows audiences to easily access
content on our YouTube channel. We plan to release trailers and behind the scene
footage in order to build publicity for our short film. By doing so we attract other
audiences. Word of mouth advertising will be used as audiences would continuously
discuss what they have found and attract others which causes them to tell others vice
versa. We will also be advertising our product on magazines and newspapers, preferably
The Metro, as it is one of the most common used newspapers around London. This
would make our film more recognisable.
Genre:
Our production is of the genre, action. The action genre will be present throughout the
film, as each scene will have intense fight scenes for the audiences to enjoy. The action
genre is the most popular amongst audiences as they are able to enjoy fast paced action
scenes with formidable fighting choreography. One of the most renowned action scenes
in recent cinema is Kingsman: Secret Service where the actions scenes consisted of
professional, realistic fights giving audiences a thrill.
Target Audience:
Our target audience is 15-30 in the socio-economic group of C1-E. The age range was
chosen to be 15-30 because we believe that this age range could relate more to our story
and characters therefore providing a better viewing pleasure. It is 15 because we believe
that this age most suitable to enjoy the action scenes as we consider them mature. 30
was chosen, as we believe anyone above the age range could not enjoy the short film. C1-
E was chosen as it allows audiences to enjoy our film better as those under
unemployment or in education would be able to watch it as they would have more time.
Those under C1 would be able to enjoy our film in their spare time either in the evening
or on a day off of work. Additionally we believe this target audience would like the
action genre more than those under or below.

mercenaries. After beating several henchmen, he realizes the world hes living in is no
real world. He beats two other stages and faces off with the final boss, John Wick.

Character Breakdown:
Samuel Waiters: Samuel Waiters is an average male teen that spends a lot of his time
playing video games. He finishes them quickly, which makes him bored. He is able-
bodied with fighting and acrobatic abilities, which allow him to successfully take out his
enemies.
John Wick: John Wick is the final boss in the film. He is also able bodied however he is
considered more experienced and stronger than Samuel. His fighting abilities trumps
over Samuels making him a formidable opponent
Actors:
When looking for actors, I searched for those who can throw a punch and take one. They
had to be able-bodied individuals capable of working in fighting scenes. They also have
to be reliable and easy to work with.
Visual Elements
Camerawork:
The camerawork will consist of POV shots in order to place the audience in the shoes of
the character. The POV shots will also present a new aspect of action as first person
action scenes are uncommon in action films.
Editing:
The editing will not completely follow the common type of editing such as fast pace
editing, as we will present an alternative way to present action such as long takes.
Setting:
The locations in the film will present different obstacles and different opportunities to
take his enemies out. The different locations will allow a change in scene and
atmosphere in order to keep the audiences entertained. Locations such as a forest and a
park will allow us to do such a thing.
Props:
The props within the scene will be used to present danger and an alternative way of
fighting. Props such as knives and props will be used in order to keep the audience
enticed in the scene.

The costumes throughout the scenes will vary according to the locations. The colour
theme will be black in order to present danger and professionalism.
