Project Based Learning: Explained.

Ok, from 5th grade I've had this kind of way of learning and it ONLY works if everyone wants to learn, it
does improve learning but also makes it possible to do nothing at all. The work of a group is always the
average of their work, ergo if one does nothing, the others are forced to work harder. My opinion is that
this does NOT work until children gets into their late teens OR when the class has a very specific type of
education.

Project-based multimedia learning is a method of teaching in which students acquire new

knowledge and skills in the course of designing, planning, and producing a multimediaproduct.
Your students' multimedia products will be technology-based presentations, such as a
computerized slide show, a Web site, or a video.

"7 Key Dimensions of Project-Based Multimedia Learning"

"7 Key Dimensions of Project-Based Multimedia Learning"
1. Core Curriculum- In this type, the word core means center or emphasizing the inner goal of project-
based multimedia learning that the students can acquire basic knowledge and skills. Whatever curriculum
that has been implemented by the DepEd, you should not waste your time to teach the students to be
able to acquire new information and skills. This project lend themselves well to multidisciplinary or cross-
curricular approaches.
2. Real-world connection- While we are alive in this world, we still doing learning. Everyday work is a new
learning experience that's why as a learner we need to be realistic in learning such things because what
we have learn since childhood up to present has a meaningful contribution to our whole life. It gives more
knowledge, skills and experiences that we will be proud of.
3. Extended time frame - A good project is not one-shot lesson. The actual length of the project depends
on the nature of the project and the age of students. It requires much time so that the students will
experience a succession of challenges and they will be proud of what they've accomplish.
4. Student decision making- In project-based multimedia learning, teachers look carefully of what
decisions have to be made by the students. Teachers will guide the students decision and give
some advises to be able to accomplish a good final product.
5. Collaboration - It is about having a cooperative group or you are working together as a team or by pair.
Each of the students will have their own contribution or role to be able to accomplish their final wok.
6. Assessment- Regardless of the teaching method use of the teachers, we don't know yet if the students
really care and understand the discussion. If you are a good and active teacher, and who is using a
direct-purposeful experiences having 90% of learning that the students will acquire based on Dale's cone
of experience, of course, your students must also gain 90% of what you have discuss. Unless, a teacher
is just having a written output or visual aids and let the students write it on their notebook and just
discussing without doing it. Even if the students understand your lesson, you are still require to give
additional assessment challenges for the students to have 3 different roles in the project-based
multimedia context:
activities for developing expectation, activities for improving the media products and activities for
compiling and discriminating evidence of learning.
7. Multimedia- In multimedia project, some students do not learn by simply using multimedia produced by
others because they can learn by creating it themselves. Through research and designing their project,
they can gather and create pictures, video clips, recordings and other media object that will serve as the
raw material for their final product.
