FOSTERFAMILYGUIDELINES:

The Animal C.A.R.E. Foundation (ACF) is in need of foster homes for its dogs and cats while they
wait for a forever home. Foster families offer a unique opportunity for pets awaiting adoption to be
part of a family and learn to acclimate into a home environment. This results in a less stressful
transition for the pet.

The ACF desires to find individuals and families who can help pets make successful transitions to
forever homes while making this an enjoyable experience for the foster family. Please note that we
have developed the following guidelines and expectations to help make this a successful process.
Please read and initial:

Each foster family shall agree to the following procedures and guidelines provided by the ACF
regarding the pet while they are in their foster care home. Please read and initial.

_____All foster animals remain the responsibility and possession of the ACF until properly
adopted. A foster animal may not be transferred to a new guardian or foster home without approval
from the Foster Program Coordinator, as authorized by the ACF Board of Directors.

______The foster family will not make decisions on veterinarian care and placement of the animal
without prior approval from the Foster Program Coordinator, as authorized by the ACF Board of
Directors.

______The ACF has identified certain local veterinarians (please see the updated list on our
website: (http://www.) COMING SOON! to provide approved medical services for its pets. In the
event that the foster family needs to take the pet to the veterinarian, the ACF will be financially
responsible for the pre-approved care. In certain circumstances the ACF will provide the
transportation for the pet to the veterinarian. (Midway Animal Clinic, North Davidson Vet Hosp,
Carolina Value Pet Care Clinic - Tractor Supply, Better Pet Mobile Spay/Neuter Clinic- Tractor
Supply, Planned Pethood Spay Neuter Clinic - Greensboro, Sheets Spay Neuter Clinic- Greensboro,
Arcadia Vet Hosp, Winston-Salem).

_______The foster family will provide the pet with humane and compassionate care and agrees not
to keep pet chained or restrained (other than the use of crate training). The foster dog should not be
kept as an outdoor-only pet and should have access to a fenced in yard. Foster cats shall always
reside indoors.
_______The foster family agrees to provide basic needs such as adequate food, water, socialization,
exercise and medical assistance (medications that have been prescribed by vet such as
liquid/pills/ointments) to pet. When food assistance is needed, the ACF will provide food upon
request for the foster animal only.

______If the foster family is no longer able to provide care for the pet, the foster family shall notify
the Foster Program coordinator or ACF immediately. The foster family agrees not to sell, abandon
or relinquish pet to the shelter or any other third party unless approved by the ACF.

______The foster family understands that the ACF may not know the disposition or temperament of
the pet and it cannot predict how it will react in all situations. The foster family understands that
they should take all reasonable precautions to ensure that the pet does not harm itself, other pets or
people and ensures that they do not destroy property. The use of crates, leashes and common sense
should be used to prevent harm.

_____ Foster pets can display unpredictable behavior; we ask that you use caution when introducing
the foster pet to other animals in the home. The foster family should also use caution with foster
animals around children. Never leave the foster animal alone with a child or family pet. Use a crate
or kennel to protect animal even after a period of time.

______ Foster pets may become scared and prone to escape/flight when they are first introduced
into a new home. As a foster family you should to take every precaution, including the use of
leashes for dogs and placing cats in a small room, prior to allowing access to the entire house.
**The ACF does not use shock collars.

______ Foster cats should be kept inside at all times and foster dogs should be on a leash when
outside and away from fenced-in yard.

______Like many shelter or stray animals, your foster dog may not be house trained or may chew
on furniture, clothing or other objects. Your foster cat may not be litter trained or may scratch
furniture, clothing or other objects. As a foster family, you will be responsible for teaching the
foster animal to be a well-behaved family pet. The ACF shall not be held responsible for damage to
personal property.

______The pet will remain the property of the ACF and may be removed from the foster family at
any time without prior notice.
______In the event that the foster family desires to permanently adopt the pet, the foster family
must complete an adoption application and pay the requested adoption fee.

_______The foster family should make certain that all pets in the household are up to date on
vaccinations such as parvo, rabies, distemper and bordatella prior to agreeing to foster a pet from
the ACF.

THE FOSTER FAMILY DOES HEREBY RELEASE, DISCHARGE AND HOLD HARMLESS
THE ANIMAL C.A.R.E. FOUNDATION AND ANY PERSON, FIRM OR CORPORATION
CHARGED OR CHARGEABLE WITH LIABILITY TOGETHER WITH THEIR HEIRS,
ADMINISTRATORS, EXECUTORS, SUCCESSORS AND ASSIGNS FROM ANY AND ALL
