The Positive and Downfalls of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival D.A.C.A
AN OVERVIEW OF D.A.C.A. 2

The Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (D.A.C.A.) can be viewed as a double-

edged sword. One view of the situation is removing illegal aliens, with criminal pasts, can aide

the economy by making available more jobs for the American citizens, and decreasing crime

within the nation. On the other hand, the United States viewing 800,000 people as a burden on

the nation, and labeling the entire group as criminals, rapists, and drug dealers, is a very

skeptical, and ingenuine, generalization.

Structure and Delivery

The delivery and structure of both genres are very informative for the ones that are being

effected by the changes, and the ones that will not be impacted as well. In the videos, there is an

explanation of what citizens are looking forward to happening when the D.A.C.A. program is

removed, and there is also testimonies from illegal immigrants that are struggling with the

outcome of the deportations that are currently being enforced. Family members are being left

behind, and without means of moving on, and children left without parents in their homes,

leaving children to be awarded to the government. There is also the interview that includes the

opinions of U.S. citizens wanting to have the removal of immigrants with criminal backgrounds

deported to make our state a safer, and humbled state.

Audience and Purpose

The audience and the purpose in each one of the two genres, are that one is a lot more

direct in the delivery of expressing personal testimonies, that directed the interest in why the

population being threatened to be deported agree, and disagree with the situation of D.A.C.A.

being eliminated. For example the congress members that were being interviewed in the

Washington Post, were both very direct in what they wanted to have heard by the president, As

terminate the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.(Weigel, 2017). There

are multiple factors that have been mentioned in the Post that would be believed to be a downfall

for the elimination of the program, on the other hand there are many beliefs that employment

rates will increase for U.S. citizens, and bring the unemployment rate to a record low.

Rhetorical Issues

In the bipartisan effort that is being conducted by lawmakers, is what will aide both the

immigrants, and citizens come to an agreement in what is best for both parties. The

knowledgeable footage, and interviews that were spoken of giving the notion that there should,

and will be an agreement that will benefit both immigrants, and citizens. The use of photographs,

showing the emotion in the crowds facial expressions, explains the importance of the decision

being made, having such an impact on the livelihoods of illegal aliens. The interviews that were

being conducted by both illegal aliens, and U.S. citizens express the importance of what is

expected form the government, and the progression needed to be an outcome to make the U.S.

great again. The musical aspects of the interviews bring the feeling of loneliness, and distress in

the interviews, and the information from the Post expresses the personal feelings that are being

felt by illegal immigrants. In one genre, logos is expressed so much more by actual live

testimonies, as to where in the other it is written testimony, to where one can interpret what is

being said in their own point of view. Though they are both different the message being

expressed from wither side, continues to follow through and is both very effective.

Conclusion

In its entirety, D.A.C.A. is a very sensitive topic that many can interpret in many different

ways, and with the genres purposes of expression through wither video testimonies, or written

testimonies the message is being portrayed. The communities that are affected by the genres are

that of many different origins, nationalities, and parties. No matter what side you are on, the

outcome of the decision will affect both sides of the bipartisan communities, and the

interpretation of the final decision will not only impact the older generations, but the newer

generations as well, and the commitment of the government will only help the U.S. grow as a

state to be stronger and more independent.
