THEORY
II. OBJECTIVE
To measure the variation of field strength of radiated wave, with distance from
transmitting antenna.
III. LIST OF FIGURE AND MATERIALS REQUIRED
ATS04
Log periodic/Dipole & Yagi (3el) Antenna
Antenna pod and stepper pod with connecting cables
IV. LABORATORY PROCEDURE & DATA RESULTS
1. Keep both pods at a minimal distance of 0.5m from each other, center to center.
2. This minimal distance ensures that we are testing the antennas in the far field region.
3. Transmitted RF signal from Dipole antenna is intercepted by Yagi (3el) and sent to
receiver. Measure the level on receiver in dBm.
4. Note down the level reading at 0.5 meter distance.
5. Take the reading at 0.7 meter distance. Ensure that no scattering objects are in the
vicinity of the antenna, which could reradiated and distort the field pattern and
consequently the readings. Avoid any movement of persons while taking the readings.
6. Take further readings at distances f 1m, 1.4m, 2m.
7. Readings can be distorted if the Yagi (3el) captures signal from its behind due to wall or
from ceiling etc.
8. Plot these readings on Cartesian plane with distance between antennas on X axis and
signal level in dB as Y axis.
9. Use the graph template provided at the end of this manual for plotting your graph.
