Experiential learning reflection

1-Value received during this activity

The tour of Evansville Association for the Blind Inc. was among one of the mesmerizing

tasks that I have got a chance to compete during my academics. Evansville Association is not for

the profit organization that works and provides job opportunities to physically disabled person.

During the year, 1923 the Evansville Association for the Blind has incorporated as a workshop in

the Indiana states. That at the time it works for the rehabilitation for the visually impaired

individuals. Now it has facilities that help in the rehabilitation of community. It offers job

training, supportive services, and wages to handicap personals to make them potential workers.

In this tour, I got a chance to see business operations in the control work environment

carefully. I believe that Evansville Association for the Blind contribution to the society is price

worthy. I have heard about the number of philanthropic activities happen in the society.

However, business philosophy of the Evansville Association regarding helping, empowering and

preparing a person for the offering variety of services is a worthy task. Evansville Association

contributions in making a disabled person to the highly skilled worker as well as offering an

advantageous lifestyle to a disabled person are inspired me a lot.

After this tour, I have learned that no doubt the primary purpose of doing business is to

earn a profit. It requires assets and investment of highly valued resources. However, the best

resource that is inimitable and could become a core advantage for the business is loyal

workforce. It is only possible when management pays keen attention towards training,

development, and education of the workforce. When the workforce especially disabled person

got skilled, they would not only become a value-maximizing source both for business and
society as well. For me, rehabilitation of disabling is a valuable contribution but offer an

advantageous lifestyle like other normal human beings is a paragon of philanthropy. I have

learned that profit can be generating through helping others. For me, control work environment is

like working in the closed ell. However, visit the Evansville Association has resolved all my

ambiguities regarding the past concepts of working in a controlled environment.

2- Fundamental principles, generalizations, or theories in Operations

Management learn from activity

Evansville Association has a big name in the furniture manufacturing. In this tour, I have

seen the application control work environment operational management concept in real life. The

division of labor and moving of task to task steps within the organization enable the workers to

get more insight into the work processes. The education and training system of Evansville

Association design in such a way that even a visually disabled person get skilled for the

manufacturing proceed. For instance, during the education process, it ensures that all the students

get access to the answers. Publishers and vendor provide bubbly and sensor sheets that enable the

students to learn quickly.

Time management that is associated with the developmental speed of the project and

flexibility in the offering ease for the workers. It also enables the Evansville Association to

maintain the consistent quality of its products. Evansville Association has 23000 square feet

area; a better brand name for the furniture also adds competitive advantage to the business.

Business believes on the just in time philosophy of doing business operations. The lean business

process, poka-yoke quality considerations, automation and flexible workforce, has a significant

role in the success and sustainability of the firm. I believe the application of The Theory of
Constraints also has a role in the success of the business. The computer chip is vital for the

approval of product and work schedule again and again until flaw removed.

Evansville Association pays a close attention towards the management of constraints like

safe storage of furniture. It has 124000 square feet area for performing industrial activities.

Moreover, the business also offers free delivery of products, free haul away for the old furniture

and services of interior decoration give it a clear space in the furniture manufacturing industry.

Due to supporting community and welfare cause supplier just in time, services,

information about the market and delivery of material also accelerate the efficiency of the

business process. Order fulfill process, welfare facilities, unique training, and education system

are the core competencies of the firm. In addition to its system and technology, the market

knows how and customer trust has an integral role in the tremendous success of the business.

3- Activity help in applying course material to improve thinking, problem-

solving, and decisions

Experiential learning reflection via the tour of Evansville Association for the blind

enables me to learn the correct way applying the course learning upon the real life. For instance,

I have learned about the unique and efficient method the training the employees. I have learned

about the storage of inventory and creating open connections with the consumers. The way of

doing business and contribution to the business in the social welfare and rehabilitation of the

society is a precious lesson that I have learned after this tour. For me, business is not the source

of generating profit via any mean. So, it should be directed and squinted in such a way that

ensures the maximization of production. However, after this tour, my thinking regarding the

business has been changed altogether. Now I start thinking that along with the work culture,
values, work policies and style of management is also equally important for the success of the

business.
