Academic Libraries are integral to all Tertiary Educational Institution. An Academic Librarys two
primary functions are to assist with credible information or resources for research and to support
the Universitys curriculum. Supporting the University of Belizes Curriculum means that each of
the four Library Branch has information geared towards the subjects being thought. Library
Personnel working at an Academic Library plays an integral role, by assisting with relevant
information. As a Prospective Professional my goals are to gain my education in my professional
field, to assist in the evolution of professionalism in an Academic Library. Change the way
Libraries are viewed in Belize. Transform the image of Liberians to Information Managers,
enhance greater collaborations amongst all Libraries within the country. Assist in creating a
program to get current personnels working in a Library qualified. My Name is Nasheria A.
Bradley, as a Library Assistant my duties requires me to constantly evolve, with specialized
training provided through the University of Belize.

University of Belize Library in a Digital Era


The University of Belize Librarys primary duty is to provide adequate and relevant information
in a timely manner (University of Belize, Library). Providing information in a digital era has
evolve not only the University of Belize Library but all Libraries Globally. This digital era means
that accessing information is easier for relevant personnels. This means that information can be
access with the touch of a key using the World Wide Web, however accessing accurate information
has made Organization such as the University of Belize evolve and enable them to collaborate with
external entities in providing Databases to its stake holders. Databases such as The EBSCOHOST
enables the access of accurate and relevant digital information, anywhere an internet connection is
possible. While this digital era has enable universities to evolve, it has also caused the evolution
of its employees.

The role of A Library Assistant in an Academic Library


A Library Assistant, working at the University of Belize is responsible to assist Patrons in regards
to University of Belize Library assets. Also to perform other duties related to the operation of the
Library, at any branch within the Library Department (University of Belize, Library).

Minimum Qualifications Required for a Library Assistant


Associate Degree in English, Business, or related Library Field.

My life after 5-10 years


Currently I am perusing my Bachelors Degree in Business Management at the University of
Belize. In 5- 10 years I plan on completing my Degree and to continue my education by starting
my Masters Degree in Library Science. While a Library Science Degree is my future goal, the
only way to accomplish this would be for me to gain a scholarship and apply to a University
abroad. The University of Belize does provide assistance and support to staff who are considering
to further their education.
Completing my Masters Degree will allow me to advance my career and potentially becoming a
Librarian. Since limited personnel are qualified Librarians in the country of Belize, this degree can
also appeal to the National Library Service of Belize. Additionally, with a Masters Degree my
potential salary a Librarian will be pay scale 25 $40,380- $66,828 (Government of Belize Pay
Scale).
