Sports Dinner
Continued from Page 1

The speakers for the evening were Diane Hextall (nee

Ogibowski), who was a World Junior Championship fig-
ure skater, and Dennis Hull, a former NHL player.
Hextall hails from the Minnedosa area, and gave a
speech on how being from Minnedosa helped to carve
the path to where she is now. She spoke of her life on the
farm, and referred to her training ritual as getting farm
fit. She showed a brief video of herself doing a triple axel
jump during a competition, which had the crowd beam-
ing with pride. A few people told me they almost got
emotional and a little bit teary eyed when they were lis-
tening to how Minnedosa has a lot of credit for what she
has achieved, said Houck.
When Hull took the floor, he had his audience cap-
tivated and shaking with laughter. His speech felt more
like a stand-up comedy skit. He also auctioned off one
of his jerseys and a signed copy of a book that he wrote,
The Third Best Hull.
Houck could not yet announce the total amount that
17104gm3
was raised at the Sports Dinner this year, but is certain
that it was very successful. She noted that without the
Rec Board, she would not have been able to pull off the
successful evening, I want to say thanks to the board,
because it definitely would not have been that night, the
night that it was, without them helping me, guiding me,
and telling me what I needed to do. We are looking for-
ward to next year!
