PROJECT R&D+I

TITLE
IBEROS INSTITUTO DE BIOINGENIERA EN RED PARA EL ENVEJECIMIENTO
SALUDABLE

HIGHLIGHTS
We expect new solutions involving medical devices and diagnostic strategies and therapies
for healthy aging based on biomaterials from marine resources.

ABSTRACT
The IBEROS project - Instituto de BioIngeniera en Red para el Envejecimiento Saludable aims to
extend the Galician Network of Biomaterials to groups in Portugal and jointly form an institute in
a network, strengthening the Galicia and Northern Portugal axis in the area of healthy aging.

Within this network will develop several collaborative projects whose activities will enable the
mobility of researchers between different institutes. The main scientific topics that will be
addressed are: New medical devices and diagnostic/ therapy strategies for diseases of aging;
Nanotechnology applied to the diagnosis and treatment of age-related diseases; Production of
biomaterials and biomolecules from the recovery of waste/ by-products of the fishing industry for
active aging.

The IBEROS Network of Excellence aims to strategically strengthen the scientific and human
resources competences in biomedical engineering, based on the pre-established scientific know-
how in the valorization of by-products of marine origin and in development of new biomaterials of
natural origin, promoting new areas of application in the health sector.
