Warm-up and Objective Discussion

[new] Ask students if any of them has ever been to Turkey. If so, shortly share the
experience. What do they know about the country (pre writing)
Explain students it is practical and important to be able to read and understand
written content in English, since the majority of content, notably on the internet, is in
English, hence comprehension will enormously broaden ones horizon.

Instruct and Model x R x W x L x S

Explain students that today were going to read and discuss a newspaper article
related to tourism.
Instruct class how to do the 3rd guided practice exercise: underline every word of
which the meaning is unknown to the student and by using the text/context, try to
figure out the meaning classically. Explain why this is a better learning method than
just looking the words up in a dictionary.

Guided Practice x R x W L x S

Show student the title of the newspaper article: Turkeys tourism sector faces
declining numbers. Students are to write down words or short phrases on sticky
notes what they think could be discussed in the article and put them on the
blackboard. (10 min)
Partition the article in four parts, each of which will be read aloud by a different
student. (5 min)
Students are to read the text again and mark the words they dont understand. In a
teacher-lead discussion theyll try to figure out what these words mean without
looking them up in a dictionary or on the internet, but by using the context. (15 min)

paragraphs. (homework). Writings will be read provided feedback by fellow students
next lesson (writing + post writing)
