CCSD g Office of the Superintendent INTEROFFICE MEMORANDUM CLARK COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT DATE: November 2, 2017 TO: All Administrators FROM: Pat Skorkowshy Superintendent of Schools SUBJECT: Clarification: Guidelines for Trustee Visits Ihave heard from several of you who have asked for clarification about the memo | issued last week (October 24, 2017) regarding interactions and site visits by Trustee Kevin Child. | want to offer a little additional context and appeal to you for support of your colleagues in a difficult situation, First of all, | made a decision to trespass Trustee Child from district property after hearing from many employees who have expressed concerns. Even after the memo | sent directing Trustee Child to schedule school visits through my office, he has continued to show up at schools without previously clearing it with me. A few weeks ago, an unannounced visit to a school by Trustee Child included him taking over classroom instruction and making comments that embarrassed a student. Unfortunately, this is not the first time that Trustee Child has made comments in a classroom upsetting students and staff. This is just one of the recent complaints | have received about Trustee Child's behavior, despite my repeated attempts to coach him about his behavior around staff and students, as well as. attempts made by his colleagues on the Board and by our attorneys. There are also reports that Trustee Child has made statements threatening the jobs of staff members who he believes may have made complaints about him. Part of my decision last week was made because the District has been notified by an outside government agency that it has received a complaint regarding Trustee Child's behavior. The agency is investigating the complaint and its investigative process is confidential by law.
