B ill Bartmann Enterprises has made it onto the prestigious Inc. 500
list of America's fastest-growing private companies. This company
publishes motivational books, CDs, and videos for entrepreneurs as well
as holding conferences and seminars.

To clinch the 234th spot in the exclusive annual ranking, Bill Bartmann
Enterprises achieved a three-year growth of 1,309.1% and the company's
revenue for 2009 was $5.7 million.

Bill Bartmann, who has earned countless business awards said:

"We are honored and humbled to be included in this exclusive

group of cutting edge companies. It is even more humbling to
realize that this is the 5th time one of our companies has achieved
this designation."

Bill Bartmann became a billionaire and the 25 th richest person in America

through a debt collection company he founded called Commercial
Financial Services (CFS). He started this company when he became
bankrupt after his oil pipe company collapsed when Saudi Arabia flooded
the market with oil and prices came crashing down. However, not only
was he bankrupt he was also $1 million in debt.

He turned this around with CFS. He persuaded the bank he owed a

million dollars to lend him a further $13,000 to buy a small box of bad
loans. Then making calls from his kitchen table he proceeded to collect
$63,000 on these bad loans. Both he and his bank saw the potential of
the debt collection business and following on from his initial success they
offered him a loan of $100,000 to purchase an even larger loan portfolio.
Arguably, neither he, nor his bank, recognized just how lucrative this

business opportunity was and that Bill Bartmann would end up achieving
billionaire status.

This canny entrepreneur he refined his debt collection methods as he

went along, creating industry standards and models of best practice.
However, he also refined the debt collection industry making it a gentler
and more respectful business.

"Bill Bartmann survived failure, remade one of the country's

ugliest industries, and became a billionaire."
Inc. magazine

But disaster struck once more when his business partner committed
fraud. CFS collapsed and Bill Bartmann found himself bankrupt again. To
exacerbate matters the federal government also indicted him on 57 felony
counts - something that even Bill Bartmann, a master at overcoming
adversity, admits was a "world-class problem". If he was found guilty, he
faced 600 years in prison.

He was given the opportunity to plead to a misdemeanour but he refused

knowing that he did not wish to live with such a blight on his conscience.
He knew he was innocent. He would just have to prove it.

The lead prosecution attorney had formerly been assigned to prosecute

Slobodan Milošević, the Serbian mass murderer. However, he was pulled
off this case so that he could now prosecute Bill Bartmann.

To make matters worse his solicitors suddenly withdrew from the case.
Bill Bartmann decided to represent himself.

During the trial which lasted 89 days the government called 53 witnesses
and lasting 89 days. In contrast, Bill Bartmann chose not to call a single
witness. He also opted not to present any case for the defence. Despite
the massive arsenal that the government fired at him the entire trial hung
on the validity of a single document which Bill Bartmann was able to
prove.

The jury found him not guilty on all counts. Later the bankruptcy trustee
for his former company publicly admitted "There was no fraud at CFS."

With that ordeal over Bill Bartmann began the process of re-building his
life.

The highs and lows that Bill Bartmann has experienced are unique. He
wasn't born into wealth. He comes from a family of eight children. His
father was a janitor and his mother cleaned houses for a living. To put it
mildly they were poor.

At age 14 he dropped out of high-school to join a travelling carnival. He

left that to join a street gang - the Manor Boys.

He's been homeless and has slept under bridge viaducts. He also spent a
summer living in a hayloft until the farmer discovered him and burnt his
few possessions.

By age 17 he was an alcoholic and almost became a paraplegic after

falling down a flight of stairs in a drunken stupor. But, with that stubborn
streak and dogged determination that are hallmarks of his success in
spite of facing enormous obstacles, he refused to accept the diagnosis
that he would never walk again and did in fact walk out of the hospital on
his own two feet.

He later got a job on the "kill-floor" of a pig slaughter house. Having seen
a pig being killed, I don't even want to imagine what that was like,
especially back then. However, here he demonstrated his leadership and
negotiating skills by organizing a wildcat strike to demand benefits for the
part-time workers.

Call it serendipity, if you like, but during this time he met the headteacher
who had booted him out of school. This time the headteacher convinced
him not to turn his back on education. He went back to school, got his
GED, graduated from college with a Bachelor's degree and eventually got
his law degree. And it was at this point his roller coaster business career
began.

"My long and interesting business career has given me a unique

perspective: I'm aware of no other slaughterhouse worker or
street-gang member ever to have become a billionaire. I'm also
something of an authority on surviving bankruptcy and other
forms of failure.

I therefore channelled that knowledge and my energies into

helping other entrepreneurs to overcome whatever barriers
they're up against. I created Bill Bartmann Enterprises, through
which I've offered courses, materials, and live events on
entrepreneurship and achieving goals."

At age 61, Bill Bartmann is far from over. During the last recession he
went from bankrupt to billionaire and during this recession he's
determined to strike it rich again only this time he wants to help even
more people enjoy phenomenal wealth and success as well.
