How do you promote cultural competencies within the classroom?

Being approachable and honest (Manaakitanga)


Making connections with Parents/whanau/students/colleagues

Daily touch base with all parents to say hello, ask if they have any concerns, see if the students are happy,
discuss any concerns that I may have

How do you celebrate / recognise the cultures within you class?

Use a variety of greetings daily to incorporate all languages

Open door policy where parents can come in any time during each day

What strategies do you use to give ownership to your students?

Giving students choices

How do you encourage ownership and learning journey development within your class?

Provide different ways of learning visual, oral and kinaesthetic types of learning environment. This also
includes emotional and social development in context to their learning
Learning is linked to students individual interests which are catered for through play
Regular reflection on teaching practice to ensure that I am meeting the needs of all students. This is done in
collaboration with Tammy, Judie and Fabian
