Based on a reading apocalyptic literature is a genre of prophetical writing that

developed in post exilic Jewish culture and was popular among early Christian apocalypse
is a Greek word meaning revelation. As a genre apocalyptic literature details the authors
vision of the end times as revealed by a heavenly messenger or an angel. The book of
revelation was written by a Jew or a Christian who were under oppressed. John the author of
the book of revelation was in the island of Patmos when he was inspired to write the book to
the believer who under persecution, we can identify the book of revelation with some
apocalyptic writing such as 1 Enosh and 4 Ezra, they were written by a Jew or a Christian and
they all have the same line of thought.
For such a time as this when John and his community had to go through a tough
time and it is very hard for a Jew to believe that the chosen people of God were under the
captivation of nation who doesnt know Yahweh, their faith were shaken and the promise of
God or the covenant were questioned.
It was during this time were the apocryphal writing was introduced. The literature
uses mysterious and symbolic language which must be interpreted in the light of earlier user.
This looks like an irony, as the name means unveiling, but the writings communicate well
where even the common people understand the meaning behind the numbers and symbols
that was significantly used in the apocalyptic literature. The main purpose of the apocalyptic
writings is to convey the message of hope and the final victory of God, to encourage the
people of God to hold on to their faith even though their trails seems unending because God
is still in control, the God of justice will definitely bring the injustice to an end. The object of
this literature in general was to solve the difficulties connected to the righteousness of God
and the suffering condition of His righteous servants.
The writing of John in the book of revelation does not envision the end of the
Cosmos; it does envision the end of evil and suffering and the visible reign of God on Earth.
Revelation is one such apocalyptic literature written to the 1st century Christian ill
treated both by the Jews and the rulers of the Roman Empire; to encourage the persecuted
church to persevere as their suffering is ending near, that God will bring the downfall and
complete destruction of their enemies and the faithful believers will be with the Lord forever.
