Q1: A partially plane polarised beam of light is passed through a polaroid. Show graphically the variation of the
transmitted light intensity with angle of rotation of the Polaroid.
Q2: Soap bubble shows beautiful colours in sun light. Why?
Q3: Coloured spectrum is observed, whenwe see through a muslin cloth. Why?
Q4: Why value of the Brewster angle for transparent medium is different for light of different colours?
Q5: Why is diffraction effect more predominant through the slit formed by two blades than by slit formed by two
fingers?
Q6: Why is light from two individual sources of equal wavelength is incoherent?
Q7.Draw the graph showing the variation of intensity of polarized light transmitted by an analyzer.

Q8: Two towers on top of two hills are 40km apart. The line joining them passes 40m above a hill halfway between
the towers. What is the largest wavelength of radio waves, which can be sent between the towers without
appreciable diffraction effects?
Q9: Laser light of wavelength 630nm incident on a pair of slits produces an interference pattern in which the bright
fringes are separated by 8.1nm. A second light produces an interference pattern in which the fringes are
separated by 7.2mm. Calculate the wavelength of the second light.
Q.10: The two slits in YDSE are separated by 0.03mm and the screen is kept 1.5m away. The 4 th bright fringe is at a
distance of 1cm from the central maxima. Calculate the wavelength of light used.
Q11: In Young's double slit experiment using monochromatic light of wavelength , the intensity at a point on the
screen where path difference /2 is K units. What is the intensity of light at a point where path difference is /4?
Q12. The resolution limit of eye is 1degree at a distance of 100m from the eye, two person stands with a lateral
separation of 3km. Calculate the distance so that the two persons are just resolved by the naked eye.

Q13.

What phenomenon is associated with the above graph? This phenomenon is observed in one experiment . Name the
experiment. If one of the slits is closed in that experiment, draw the variation in the above graph. Write any two differences
between the above two phenomena.
Q14. State and explain Huygens principle. Name the type of wavefront that corresponds to a beam of light i) coming from a
convex lens when a point source is placed at its focus. (ii) coming from a very far off source (iii) diverging radially from a
point source On the basis of Huygens principle prove the laws of reflection of light.
Q15. Derive the distance found in case of Fraunhoffer diffraction pattern for single slit diffraction case. What is the Fresnel
distance? Writedown the formula for computing resolving power of telescope, microscope and human eye?
