prevent and to know the causes of fish mortality inside the fishpond.

Future researcher- The finding of this study will serve as a guide for the other researcher who

will be conducting similar study.

Scope and delimitation of the study

This research study focuses on determining on how to reduce fish mortality inside the

fishpond and the participants of this study are the grade 10 students of Abulug School of Fisheries

in Centro,Abulug,Cagayan for the School Year 2017-2018.

CHAPTER 1

PROBLEM AND BACKGROUND

Introduction

Fish mortality is a parameter used in fisheries population dynamics to account for the loss

of the fish in a fish stock through death. The mortality can be divided into two types the natural mortality

and fishing mortality. The natural mortality is the removal of fish from the stock due to causes not

associated include disease, old age, predation, pollution or any other natural factor that cause the death of

fish and the fishing mortality is the removal of fish from the stock due to fishing activities using any gear.

Dead fish may sink and not been seen, but they usually float to the surface and accumulate around the

edges of ponds. The ponds should be operated in a manner to prevent death fish.

Thus several analyses have shown that, in particular year. Such difficulty will exist in any

fishery, but will be redoubled if the control of mortality involves any allocation. Then it will be greatly to

the interest of each person receiving allocation, presumably in the form of so many units of effort, to

ensure that the mortality caused by his units is maximized.

It appears therefore, that in a fishery in which several groups of fisherman participate,

fishing mortality is best measure, and the targets of regulation set, in terms of fish kill.
CHAPTER 2

Conceptual Framework

This paradigm study explains on how to prevent and reduce fish mortality inside the fishpond.

The process includes the analyses in preventing and reducing fish mortality inside the fishpond and

factors that cause the death of the fish. The results of the analyses is on how to prevent and what is the

best method in reducing fish mortality inside the fishpond which served as a basis for recommendation to

determine on how to prevent and what is the best method in reducing fish mortality.
CHAPTER 3

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY AND PROCEDURES

This chapter presents discussion of the research design, selection and description of respondents,

research instrument used, data gathering procedures, and the analysis of the data.

Research Design:

The researchers use qualitative approach as a research design for it is the most appropriate approach

for the study.

Purposive Sampling:

The researchers use selected grade 10 students from the Abulug School of the Fisheries in

Centro,Abulug,Cagayan as the participants of this study.

Data Gathering Instrument:

The researchers use interview with guided questions and documentary as instruments to gather the

needed information or data of this study.

Data Gathering procedures:

The researchers first sought the approval of Mrs Ronalyn Estrella to conduct this study. After it

was approved, the researchers personally looked for respondent students. The participants were the

selected grade 10 students from the Abulug School of the Fisheries. The researchers interviewed the

participants with the use of guided questions. The participants responded to the question orally and all

were recorded. The data obtained from the interview was then analysed.
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

Words are not enough to describe the feeling of the researchers especially to the people who

inspires them in making this study. This study would not have been made possible without the valuable

support and assistance of the people whom the researchers need to express their sincerest gratitude.

To the Department of Education, for giving the researchers the opportunity to develop and

enhance their skills through this seminar;

To the facilitators, for their immeasurable support and assistance that encourage the researchers to

work harder and finish this study;

To all students who actively participated as respondents, for sharing their precious time during the

data gathering;

Above all, to Almighty and loving God the Father, for giving the researchers the courage,

strength and wisdom they need to accomplish and come up with great result on this study.
Data Analysis

Base on the data gathered, the table 1.1 the common causes of fish mortality shows that the major

high rating of the participants is lack oxygen or depletion of dissolve oxygen. Dissolve oxygen is the most

requirement in all parameters in pond stocking. They add oxygen in the plastic bag in order to survive in

transporting to avoid mortality or death.

Table 1.2 the best material to be use in preventing fish mortality shows that the salinity

refractometer, PH meter, armored thermometer, and secchi disk. Base on the rating of the participants are

all the same. Because all the material that they said is important in preventing fish mortality according to

grade 10. Armored thermometer is to measure the temperature of the water, to measure the coldness and

hotness of the water. Secchi disk measure the turbidity of the water and there are two kinds of turbidity.

Plankton turbidity and Mineral turbidity. If the turbid water in fishpond cant control the fish will case a

disease on gills that can cause death. PH meter measure the acidity and alkalinity of the water and the

most require in fast growth of fish is about below 6.5 and above. Salinity refractometer measure the

saltness in the water or salt presence in the water

Table 1.3 the best method in reducing fish mortality inside the fishpond shows the high rate,

base on the participants answer. The best method is preparing the fishpond.. According to grade10 there

is 10 steps in preparing the fishpond that can help in reducing fish mortality before stocking.
CHAPTER 4

SUMMARY, CONCLUSIONS, AND RECOMMENDATIONS

This chapter presents the summary of findings, conclusions and recommendations of the study.

Summary

The study has provided answer on (1) The common causes of fish mortality? (2) The best material

to be used in preventing fish mortality? (3) The best method in reducing fish mortality inside the

fishpond?

Conclusions

Based on the findings, the following conclusion were deducted: That the participants shown the fish

mortality is caused by low of dissolved oxygen in the water, in all parameters the most important is in

order to breath.

Using materials or measurements in water, soil, parameters and dikes. By using armored

thermometer, secchi disk, PH meter, and salinity refractometer. That can control or prevent in diseases

and maintain good health of aquatic live stocks.

There is a method to be make or prepare the fishpond in good condition, there are ten steps to

acquired to prevent lost of stocks.

Recommendations

Base from the findings and conclusions of the study, the following recommendations were made:

1. Follow the stock density.

2. Do not over feed.

3. Use chemicals (fish toxicants, pond ameliorants) that are safe for the fish and the environment.

4. When the water quality problems arise, use the cheapest technique to manage water quality.

5. Add aerator to the fishpond or tanks.

RESULTS AND DISCUSSIONS

This chapter presents results and discussion of the best method in reducing fish mortality inside the

fishpond.

Based on the study, the majority of the participants in maintaining the good health, quality of fish

inside the fishpond. Fish is the most consumable in the world. There is million kilo in the market every

day. We must cultivate fishes like tilapia, bangus and etc. By culturing we can support the need of public.

The lost of fish in marketable size to fry and losing income. Its natural in fry and fingerlings in

transporting that the fish died because in low of oxygen, temperature and time of travel. By using of tools

we can maintain the health of fish and to avoid fish mortality.
