Trumps decision to end DACA

DACA is the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals; former president Barack Obama

made the dreamer act to prevent children who came to the U.S before the age of 16 with their

parents illegally and allows them to stay with temporary residency to be able to work and go to

school (Knopf 1). Now that Donald Trump is president he wants to end DACA; this is important

because if Trump does end it then thousands of students and families who were protected with

this act will be at risk of being deported back to their country (Nguyen and Kebede 1). The

discussion weather DACA should be ended or not is a huge issue for children who came with

their parents to the U.S illegally because they might get their residency taken away and be

deported.

Barack Obama was the 44th president; he became president in 2009. During his terms he

came up with DACA also known as the dreamer act. DACA stands for Deferred Action for

Childhood Arrivals; the dreamer act allows undocumented students a chance for permanent

residency in the United States. This act is very important for thousands of students who illegally

came to U.S; it allow them to stay and go to school and work without being deported. In the

2016 presidential election Donald Trump won and is now the president; his views are far from

Obamas and wants to end DACA. Thousands of people have stood up and spoke out about

Trumps decisions; there have been many protest trying to stop Trump from ending it. Obama and

Joe Biden, who was Obama's vice president spoke out and have tried to stop Trump from

removing it saying that many lives will be affected by this.

During his campaign Donald Trump had made many promises, one of them being

immigration (Nguyen and Kebede 14). Not only is Trump wanting to get rid of DACA he is also

planning on building a wall on the border to prevent immigrants from coming in to the United

States from Mexico. There are many things that Trump does not like about what Obama did and

DACA is one of them. The dream act is not the only thing Obama did that Trump wants to

remove; he also wants to get rid of Obamacare. Many People find that Trump is unfit to be

president and that he does not know what he is doing, he has also been accused many times for

sexual assault. Other people believe that he will "make America great again" and like that he

wants to deport immigrants and build a wall to keep them out. Before becoming president,

Trump owned his own business and had a tv show called the celebrity apprentice. During the

election, Trump went up against Hilary Clinton who is married to Bill Clinton who was the 42 nd

president.

This act allowed children whose parents brought them to the United States illegally to have

temporary residency and not be deported back to their country. With this act, it allowed those

children to get an education and get a job to be able to support them and their families. Many

people think that they are illegal and that they shouldnt be allowed to stay in the United States

and that they should be deported. They also think that immigrants are taking jobs away from

Americans. Other people think that they should be allowed to stay because their parents brought

them when they were young; some people bring up the fact that our ancestors did the same thing

to the native Americans and they came and took over the land. The number of immigrants or

foreign-born residents has been growing significantly over the past three decades (Nguyen and

Kebede 7). if Donald Trump ended DACA it would affect millions of immigrant students and

workers.

Some people have already been facing deportation, a 10-year-old girl from Texas is

getting deported. She is undocumented but has lived here since she was 3 (Eustachewich). She

has cerebral palsy and was going to the hospital to get surgery, they had passed by border patrol

and since she was undocumented they followed her to the hospital and waited for her to wake up

from surgery to deport her back to Mexico. Not only are Mexican people facing deportation but

Donald Trump has banned Muslim countries from coming into the United States by airplane.

Immigration has been a controversial topic for a very long time, there are people who

think that immigrants shouldnt be allowed illegally in the United States and others think that

they should have a chance to become an American citizen. DACA has help many immigrant

children, it has allowed them to stay and get an education or get a job without having to worry

about getting deported because the dreamer act protects them. Obama started the dreamer act to

allow immigrant children have a chance to get an education and a job and now with Donald

Trump as president they fear that they will get deported because he is trying to get DACA

removed.
