November 2017
Holistic Health Topic: Nutrition
Event 1 (November 7th): The class at this event will be about packing nutritional lunches and
afterschool snacks for students.
Event 2 (November 21st): This class will be about why eating breakfast is essential for
students school success.
December 2017
Holistic Health Topic: Physical
Event 3 (December 5th): Class about statistics of Native American youth that are at risk for
diabetes and obesity. Discussion about reasons parents might have for these statistics. Group
discussion about solutions to overcome barriers.
Event 4 (December 19th): Class about how to create environments for children to be active
and moving. (Limiting electronic usage, having tools to help students be active like a soccer ball
or a baseball and gloves).
January 2017
Holistic Health Topic: Emotional
Event 5 (January 9th): Class about helping parents learn how to motivate and encourage their
children to live a healthy lifestyle.
Event 6 (January 23rd): Parents and students learn about how to implement safe and nurtured
interactions and connections in regards to discussions about childs physical health and their
well being.
February 2017
Holistic Health Topic: Social
Event 7 (February 6th): Class informing parents about the importance of children
cooperating with others in physical activities. (Sports, hiking, walking, running)
Event 8 (February 20th): Class about the importance of having balance in life. It is
important to balance family life, school life, study time, food intake, and physical activity.
Having a balanced lifestyle leads to healthy choices.
March 2017
Holistic Health Topic: Intellectual
Event 9 (March 6th): Interpret and expand on types and causes of Diabetes, as well as
symptoms of Diabetes (Type 1, Type 2 Diabetes). Parents can break into groups and make a
Cause and Effect chart, then come back together to discuss as a big group.
Event 10 (March 20th): Parents and students discuss experiences they have had in their
home environment that involve food (family dinners, movie nights, picnics, dinner, breakfasts).
This will help them relate past experiences to what theyve learned and plan how to create new
healthy experiences.
April 2017
Holistic Health Topic: Spiritual
Event 11 (April 3rd): Lesson about understanding natural cultivation on the land to make
connections with ancestral beings lifestyles. Ancestors lived on the land and farmed on the
land. Parents and students will know that in their ancestry, people made healthy eating and
physical choices because it was their way of life.
Event 12 (April 17th): Discussion about the purpose of life. Discuss why parents and students
value their lives and their purpose for being on Earth. How does physical and mental health tie
into this purpose?
All Events
During these events, students can run laps for prizes and play physical activity games or
sports with other children. Parents and other family members can participate during this
time as well.
