Calculation of Blooms Score & Blooms Index for the assessment of Quality

in Direct Assessment Tools

The quality of internal semester question papers and assignments are assessed by the Module
coordinators and course coordinator based upon the Learning levels described by Blooms
Taxonomy. The parameters of Blooms Taxonomy are converted into a Learning Levels in
continuous scale 1-5 as presented in the table given below:

For each question in the internal test paper (or Assignment) an appropriate score is assigned
based on the Learning Level and the Blooms Index (BI) is computed by taking the weighted
average of all the questions in the internal paper (or Assignment).

Xi is the marks allocated for the ith question as per the assessment plan
Si is the score allocated for the ith question as per the Blooms Taxonomy level

The internal question papers are ratified by the course advisor, the module coordinator, the
Program Co-ordinator and Head of the Department. The Program Audit Committee reviews at
the end of semester and gives its suggestions/recommendations if the Learning levels are not
met.
