My Renaissance coming home

My Renaissance starts off coming back from serving an LDS mission in Mexico for two years.

A rebirth of my own culture, coming back to things I put a break on so that I can focus on living in a

new culture while serving those down their. It wasn't necessarily a dark time like as described in before

a renaissance, it was mainly coming back to school having not studied since High school. It was

learning how to live in the real world going back to school to get a good job as Robert Kioysaki

summarizes as the human culture. Learning the course topics in BUS-1050 as a foundation to business

history and the fundamentals to what makes business a business has been an awakening to my true

desires and goals I want in life. Learning this history helps us make connections to questions such as

where did business come from?, how did it start? how will business function in in the next fifty to one

hundred years? What new business/megalopolises ideas will be created with new job openings?

In H.G Wells short history of the Ancient world he describes the Nomadic people as the first

ones to use trade in the form on life necessities. They roamed around from place to place trading things

they had for other thing they may need at the current moment. I like to relate this to myself because

understanding that people got around and survived only trading things for stuff they needed is

important to understand that consumerism needs to be put on more strict budgets as to only purchase

things that are needed. Wants can be good but also used to bring us into debt. Iv learned that to spend

less then what you make will always be a good contributor. This is part of my Renaissance journey as I

have come back to school after being away for two years in the sense that learning about the way

money works and how society with businesses works motivates me to save money and try to find ways

to make money work for me. BUS-1050 teaches the foundations of where business came from and how

it formed modern society today and tells us where we fit and what social class we participate in. One of

my favorite investors Robert Kioysaki wrote a book called Rich Dad Poor Dad he teaches a lot about
financial literacy and what schools dont teach you. He says that the basis of life about fifty years ago

was to go to school get good grades to get a nice job, as this was very common and well thought out

times have changed. Going to school, getting good grades and getting a good job is still necessary in

today's society however you will get stuck in what we call the rat race or a Salary that is considered

middle class. Knowing about money and how it works being able to invest and make it work for you

will help you be more financially stable in a world in which we live in. Robert also talks about starting

businesses and the importance of trying to build some type of machine like a book, something that will

constantly make you money with out work. Many of the Philosophers in this course such as Harvey

Meyer, John Rockfeller and many others hit on this topic.

After getting of my mission Last year in 2016 I immediately got a job working for a Medicare

Brokerage company Willis Towers Watson OneExchange working as a Customer Service

Representative. Understanding that this job is only seasonal and temporary I would for a bit to gain

some skills working as a white collar worker and a slave to my employer, trading my time for an

hourly wage. I soon got several of of promotions of workload without pay. I became a CSR Trainer

after the season and started a new season as seasonal trainer to train the new on boarding CSRs. As this

to me felt like a great opportunity I was gaining more skills and a resume. Well after the season I

thought that they wouldn't need me anymore and I would be able to focus on school more seriously.

Just like a traditional business they offered my a promotion in the Client Services Funding

Administration working as an Analyst. I couldn't take this offer down as it would again be a proportion

in salary pay, new skills and a better Resume. Why am I stating all of this? Its because Im trying to

make a point that Im still trading my time for a set ammount of money. I have always dreamed of the

day where people say that they fired their boss. I could be spending more time on building my own

business. I am still in the rat race trying to figure out how to get out. This course has been a renaissance

to me in understanding this concept.

 I really enjoyed the concept of critical thinking. Critical thinking was a Renaissance of its own

to many early Greek philosophers. Type one and type two, explain the errors being eliminated based on

our perceptions of reality. For example, If I were to propose that there is a spider on my hand based on

perception however in reality there is not a spider on my hand it would be a type two error because I

ended up accepting something that you should reject, because in fact it is false. In Businesses,

Managers use this concept everyday while they come up with new ideas and ways of doing things. I

would also like to state that Critical thinking is important in every daily life. Using our five senses to

perceive things is like a businessman perceiving the way things might work out in a business plan

based on past perceptions. I also really enjoyed the story I, Pencil by Leonard Read. His story Is about

a pencil and all the work by many people that goes into to make a simple pencil. Not just one person

will be in this creation but a whole assembly line of people who work in what we refer to as Alienated

Labor the separation of work and the product. A worker will get paid a little wage each day to do the

same repetitive thing over and over again, thus getting dumber and dumber as perceived. This concept

is important for me at my work because I show up daily to sit in my cubical desk and stare at my

computer monitor for 8-10 hours a day examining Power of Attorney Documents and entering them

into our company database. I sometimes feel like of these workers in the factory with no future. What

could I do now to change this? What invention or machine could I create to make money work for me?

In conclusion of my Renaissance, my re-birth of starting my adult life has been a success so far

with much fascination in the work and corporation life and how it works as well as each subject I have

taken at Salt lake Community College. Im learning many life lessons for myself and good financial

skills that will only help me out in the next 20-30 years I would hope. What will I be doing in the next

20-50 years? I don't know because life will always change, the way people are raised will be changed.

Maybe in the near future there wont be a huge need to work as machines and robots will do it all for
us? Maybe school wont be as needed as people wont need an education? This is only my prediction as

the reality has not happened yet. What will be my next renaissance?.
