Guidelines on report preparation

a) Students are required to form a group consists of 3-5 members.

b) Students are required to write a report on the given topics.

c) Report should be computer typed using 1.5 spacing on A4 paper and using font type
Times New Roman size 12 / Arial size 11 for 5-10 pages ONLY.

d) In the Bibliography section, reference all ideas, quotes and information from which you
use from books, articles and the Internet sources in the form of APA format.

e) Failure to submit by the due date could result to the candidate being awarded with zero
marks. Assignment submitted late without prior application for an extension or medical
evidence will not be accepted. Extensions are granted only because of approved
circumstances.

f) The submission date is on 26/11/2017 (Sunday) (Week 11) not later than 12.00 pm.

1 Define economic growth and income per capita. Collect a set data of Malaysias GDP and
data for Income per Capita for about 10-year periods. Discuss the trend of economic
growth and income per capita of Malaysian economy. Then, explain how income per
capita act as a key measure of economic performance and wealth of a nation. Then,
discuss other points of importance for estimating national income.

2 Define GDP and GNP. Gather a set of data showing the value of GDP for a few countries
in ASEAN or Asia and comment. There are various shortcomings in calculating national
income or GDP. Discuss.

3 Briefly explain autonomous and induced consumption. Elaborate the factors that
contribute to the change in household consumption pattern from conventional perspective.
Then, discuss the rationality of consumers behavior in spending, from Islamic view.

4. Briefly explain autonomous and induced investment as explained by Keynesian and then,
discuss other factors that may affect investment in an economy. Elaborate Keynesian
theory who believed that spending from consumers, private investors and government can
boost up output growth. (draw a diagram related to the theory).

5. Define inflation. Discuss the real value of money and explain how the standard of living of
a nation falls as inflation rises. Then explain the causes of inflation in an economy.

6. Generally, inflation is interpreted as a negative phenomenon. Explain the effects of


inflation to an economy and social. Nevertheless, discuss how this economy can resolve
the problem of inflation.

7. Collect a set of data for unemployment rate and growth rate in Malaysia for about 10-year
periods. Analyze the data and explain the relationship between both, if any. Then, discuss
the effect of unemployment on individuals, societies and countrys economic growth and
development.

8. Define unemployment and explain how is it measured. Discuss the types of


unemployment and how to solve the problem of unemployment?

9. How does monetary policy can influence inflation and unemployment? Discuss the
instruments introduced through this policy for combating inflation and unemployment in
Malaysia.

10. Discuss the implementation of Fiscal Policy in Malaysia? Explain how government
spending multiplies to expand output and growth of a nation. Explain how to combat
unemployment and inflation using fiscal policy?
