2. Minutes of the previous meeting in New York City were reviewed. Following a motion
by Joe Solomon and a second by Steve Gebler, the minutes were approved.
3. ACI 503.X Specification for Crack Repair by Epoxy Injection : The revised
document has been returned to ACI for publication.
4. State of the Art Report Crack Injection Using Urethanes: Scott B. Anderson,
Northeast Regional Sales Manager, DeNeef Construction Chemicals Inc. (713-869-0123,
203-233-0061) made a presentation on Crack Injection Using Urethanes. Frank
Constantino arranged for the presentation. The presentation indicated that DeNeef
Construction Chemicals Inc. is the largest and oldest US manufacturer of polyurethane
grouts for the construction industry. Following the presentation the committee decided
that Crack Injection Using Urethanes is not a structural adhesive repair but rather a crack
sealing repair. The committee decided to contact ACI committee 546 Repair and have
them take action on a specification for Crack Injection Using Urethanes. The ICRI Guide
for use of materials for crack injection includes urethanes.
5. ACI 503R-93 Use of Epoxy Compounds with Concrete, Reapproved 1998: After
extending the ballot 30 days, the document was re-approved by a vote of 15 affirmative,
12 not returned and no negatives.
6. Future Technical Sessions: The committee decided not to pursue a session on "Sealing
and Repairing Cracks Using Polymers."
9. Frequently Asked Questions: The committee agreed that the following question is
frequently asked and worthy of consideration as an FAQ: What is the proper application
rate or thickness for epoxy adhesives used to bond plastic concrete to hardened concrete
(ACI 503.2-98)?
11. Other Business: Chairman Sprinkel reminded the committee that the Annual Report will
be done differently starting this year. Two months after the Spring meeting the Chairman
will be asked by ACI staff to update the web page @ concrete.org/committee/503. Also,
members need to keep their information up to date.
