1. SYNOPSIS :-

Cloud Computing, to put it simply, means Internet Computing. The

Internet is commonly visualized as clouds; hence the term cloud
computing for computation done through the Internet. With Cloud
Computing users can access database resources via the Internet from
anywhere, for as long as they need, without worrying about any
maintenance or management of actual resources. Besides, databases
in cloud are very dynamic and scalable.

Cloud computing is unlike grid computing, utility computing, or

autonomic computing. In fact, it is a very independent platform
in terms of computing. The best example of cloud computing is
Google Apps where any application can be accessed using a
browser and it can be deployed on thousands of computer
through the Internet .Our project also based on cloud computing
named AEC CONNECT. AEC connect basically an automated
library system which informed about the book avability,
prebooking and E-book downloads. It is a well-organized
software for a library. It help to provide information on any book
present in library to the user as well as staff member. AEC
connect keep track of issued books, returned and added library.
Minimize the loss of book. The cloud software is used for library
system is GOOGLE CLOUD PLATFORM which is very efficient and
minimize the time user and staff. It also eliminate the use of
paper work in the library. And have the graphically interface
which suit the user. Finally, it accessed by anywhere and
everywhere.

3. PROJECT DETAILS:-

3.1 DEFINITION & THEORIES:-

Cloud computing is a new technology model for IT services which many

organizations and individuals are adopting. Cloud computing can transform
the way systems are built and services delivered, providing libraries with an
opportunity to extend their impact. Cloud Computing is internet based
computing where virtual shared servers provide software, infrastructure,
devices and other resources and hosting to customers on a pay-as-you-use
basis. All information that a digitized system has to offer is provided as a
service in the cloud computing model. Users can access these services
available on the Internet Cloud without having any previous know- how
on managing the resources involved.
5|Page

It is important to recognize that cloud services are often but not always
utilized in conjunction with, and enabled by, virtualization technologies.
There is no requirement, however, that ties the abstraction of resources
to virtualization technologies and in many offerings virtualization by
hypervisor or operating system container is not utilized. Cloud
computing is a way of providing various services on virtual machines
Allocated on top of a large physical machine pool which resides in the
cloud. Cloud computing comes into focus only when we think about
what IT has always wanted a way to increase capacity or add different
capabilities to the current setting on the fly without investing in new
infrastructure, training new personnel or licensing new software. Here
on the fly and without investing or training become the keyword in the
current situation. But cloud computing offers a better solution.
6|Page

The basis of cloud computing is to create a set of virtual servers on the

available vast resource pool and give it to the clients. Any web enabled
device can be used to access the resources through the virtual servers.
Based on the computing needs of the client, the infrastructure allotted
to the client can be scaled up or down. Cloud is a term used as a
metaphor for the wide area networks (like internet) or any such large
networked environment. It came partly from the cloud-like symbol used
to represent the complexities of the networks in the schematic
diagrams. It represents all the complexities of the network which may
include everything from cables, routers, servers, data centers and all
such other
Devices.
With cloud computing we have come a full circle. We come back to the
centralized computing infrastructure. But this time it is something which
can easily be accessed via the internet and something over which we
have all the control.

CLOUD COMPUTING SERVICES:-

Cloud computing offers huge benefits and advantages to small, medium

and enterprise businesses. The core purpose behind each cloud
computing service is more or less the same that is to store data outside
the business premises and make it available and accessible from
anywhere in the world. With this shared core concept, the purpose and
applications of
Different cloud based service vary a lot.

Software as a Service (SaaS):-

8|Page

Software packages such as CRM or CAD/CAM can be accessed under the cloud
computing scheme. Here a customer upon registration is allowed to use software
accessible through the net and use it for his or his business process. The related
data and work may be stored on local machines or with the service providers.
SaaS services may be available on rental basis or on per user basis.

Platform as a Service (PaaS):-

Cloud vendors are companies that offer cloud computing services and products.
One of the
Services that they provide is called PaaS. Under this a computing platform such as
an
Operating system is provided to a customer or end user on a monthly rental basis.
Some of the major cloud computing vendors, is Amazon, Microsoft, and Google etc.

Infrastructure as a service (IaaS):-

The cloud computing vendors offer infrastructure as a service. One may avail
hardware services such as processors, memory, networks, etc. on agreed basis for a
specific duration and price.

CHARACTERISTICS OF CLOUD COMPUTING:-

On demand self-services: computer services such as email, applications,

network or
Server service can be provided without requiring human interaction with each
service Provider.

A Broad network access: Cloud Capabilities are available over the network
and accessed through standard mechanisms that promote use by
heterogeneous thin or thick client platforms such as mobile phones, laptops
and PDAs.

Measured service: Cloud computing resource usage can be measured,

controlled, and reported providing transparency for both the provider and
consumer of the utilized service. Cloud computing services use a metering
capability which enables to control and optimize resource use, flexibility or
resiliency in the cloud.

Multi Tenacity: is the 6th characteristics of cloud computing advocated by the

Cloud
Security Alliance. It refers to the need for policy-driven enforcement, segmentation,
Isolation, governance, service levels, and charge back/billing models for different
Consumer constituencies.

LIBRARIES WITH INDIAN EDUCATION SYSTEMS:-

India has a large higher education system. The growth rate of educational

institutions in India was very slow before independence in 1947. India is no

exception. Libraries were established in ancient India mainly by the patronage

extended by emperors, major capitalists, and scholars. Indian emperors and kings

were supported scholars and scholarship. There is evidence of well-developed

libraries even in the sixth century A.D. The University Grants Commission has set up

an autonomous Inter-University Centre in 1991 called INFLIBNET.

It is involved in modernizing university libraries in India and connects them

through a nationwide high-speed data network. It promotes automation of libraries,

develops standards, creates union catalogues of serials, theses, books, monographs

10 | P a g e

and non-book materials; provides access to bibliographic information sources;

creates a database of projects, institutions, specialists; provides training, etc.

Almost all academic libraries, especially university libraries, are members of

INFLIBNET.

WHY CONSIDER CLOUD COMPUTING IN LIBRARIES?

Create a highly efficient IT ecosystem where resources are pooled together and

costs are aligned with what resources are actually used. Access service and data

from anywhere at any time. Scale your Library system quickly, easily and cost-

effectively based on your Evolving business needs.

WHAT CAN CLOUD COMPUTING DO FOR LIBRARIES?

Turning to CC and libraries, are their real problems that can be solved? The answer
is yes. The library community can apply the concept of cloud computing to amplify
the power of Cooperation and to build a significant, unified presence on the Web.
This approach to Computing can help libraries save time and money while
simplifying Workflows.
The library community can apply the concept of CC to amplify the power of
cooperation and to build a significant, unified presence on the Web.

Most library computer systems are built on pre-web technology.

Systems distributed across the Net using pre-web technology are harder and
more costly to integrate.
Libraries store and maintain much of the same data hundreds and thousands
of times.
With libraries running independent systems collaboration between libraries is
made difficult and expensive.
Information seeker work in common web environments and distributed
systems make it difficult to get the library into their workflow.
11 | P a g e

Many systems are only used in 10% of their capacity. Combining systems into
a cloud environment reduces the carbon footprints, making libraries greener.
Each offers some general and some unique opportunities for libraries.
Looking first at the technology that most current library systems employ
several benefits of cloud computing solutions surface.

APPLICATION OF CLOUD COMPUTING IN LIBRARIES:-

Libraries are shifting their services with the attachment of cloud and networking with
the Facilities to access these services anywhere and anytime. In the libraries, the
following possible areas were identified where CC services and applications may be
applied.

PRESENT SITUATION OF INDIAN ACADEMIC LIBRARIES :-

In India, cloud computing in Libraries is in development phases. Libraries are trying

to provide to their user cloud based services, but in reality they are another fully

successful owing to the lack of good service providers and Library professional

skills. Digital Library, web documentation and using Web 2.0 technology are running

on successfully. Nowadays, many commercial as well as open source vendors (i.e.

Open stack) are clubbing the Cloud Computing Technology (CCT) into their services

and products. However, CCT is not fully accepted in the India Libraries, but they are

trying to develop.

5. FUTURE SCOPE:-
The library have a policy about student-owned devices that can be used to access
the resources you provide in the cloud? Parents will not allow a simple ban on them,
any more than they allowed an organization to ban mobile phones.
The library have the reliable, adequate and secure wireless infrastructure to support
Dozens, if not hundreds, of student-owned computing devices taking advantage of
cloudbased Applications.
Library, helping teachers and students receive the training, resources and strategies
to use the cloud.
Library using cloud-based applications to lower its operating costs.
Might libraries re-purpose those general use computer labs, providing instead a
combination of wireless net books that can be used anywhere in and out of the
library and fewer, but more powerful, media production computers in common labs.

CONCLUSION:-

Cloud computing is one avenue for this move into the future. It can
bring several benefits for libraries and give them a different future.
The vision is to use cloud computing to deliver library resources,
services and expertise at the point of need, within user workflows
and in a manner that users want and understand.

The cloud computing model will encourage libraries and their

users to participate in a network and community of libraries by
enabling them to reuse information and socialize around information.
It can also create a powerful, unified presence for libraries on the
Web and give users a local, group and global reach. It is time for
Indian libraries think seriously before clubbing the library service
with cloud based technology and provide reliable and rapid service
to their users.
