Albert Einstein: Immigrant Scientist

Albert Einstein was born on March 14, 1879 at Ulm in Wurttemburg Germany.

Six weeks after his birth, the Einstein Family moved to Munich Germany. This is where Albert

first attended schooling at the Luitpold Gymnasium. A few years later, The family moved to

Italy where Einstein continued his education. Albert Einstein loved his compass that his father

gave him at 5 years old and studied its movements for countless hours. He also played the violin

and the piano. In school, Albert was a pretty average student. In his younger years he did not do

well because he couldnt speak until he was almost 5 years old. Apparently, some of his teachers

thought he could have been mentally handicapped and even retarded. Einstein dropped out of

school at sixteen and went to various federal colleges and universities. The father of Albert

Einstein died believing his son to be a failure for at this point, Einstein had no job, no money, no

wife, and not even a high school diploma. He schooled in Sweden, Germany, and Switzerland.

He started with mathematics degrees and later realized he was more suited to physics. He

married and moved to Germany after some family issues were solved. Einstein left Germany in

1932 in fear of his life. The rising Nazi regime was targeting him and discrediting his theories

and papers calling it all Jewish Science. The last straw that made him leave was a magazine

published with his face on the title and the caption, Not Hanged Yet. Einstein moved to

America and eventually found home in New Jersey at the Institute for Advanced Study. Once he

got to the US, his life was focused more on science and physics, however in the first few years of

American life he experienced a lot of sorrow. His son was diagnosed with schizophrenia and had

multiple mental breakdowns over the years. On top of this, Einsteins close friend and fellow

physicist committed suicide and his wife died as well. Just to add insult to injuries, physicists

were doubting his famous equation, E=mc squared and believed it to be incorrect. He sent a letter

to the president of the US urging him to continue research on the atomic bomb and to use his

equation. He was very passionate about this because he knew the Nazis were doing the same

research and if they got that technology they would be virtually unstoppable. Albert einstein

helped in the creation of the atomic bomb and had previously achieved the nobel prize in physics

in 1921. He affected the entire world in his physics research and scientific theories. He once said,

and Im paraphrasing here, that if there were to be a world war 3, world war four would be

fought with sticks and stones. If Einstein had known that the Nazis would never figure out how

to create an atomic bomb, he never would have encouraged the US to do so. He died on April 18,

1955 of a brain aneurysm.
