An-225 Outline

I. Introduction
a. Attention getter: Imagine seeing the majesty that is a spacecraft flying across the sky. It
would be an incredible experience until the point where you realize that spacecraft dont
normally fly horizontally as they are intended for space. Once you determine that there is
something wrong and start assessing the other factors you might notice that this spacecraft
is on the back of a plane larger than any you have ever seen. Honestly one might be
forgiving for asking if you need to have your eyesight checked.
b. Credibility: Having researched this plane for the duration of this project I am now confident
in saying
c. Why it matters: that this plane is something that can benefit people by spreading aid and
technology or simply dazzling people with its scale.
d. Preview: The aircraft responsible for these incredible feat is none other than the Antonov
AN-225 Mriya or dream in English, a plane with unapparelled physical statistics, an
interesting past, and incredible potential.
Transition: This plane is a marvel of engineering and I believe that it is important to have a
more thorough understanding of it.
II. Physical Description/Statistics
a. Antonov AN-225 Mriya is the worlds largest aircraft. When it was built, it surpassed
any airliner built before it by 50%. According to CNNs travel section
b. Largest plane ever built
i. Heaviest maximum takeoff weight
ii. Largest wingspan in active service
c. Basically, it is an enlarged version of the AN-124 military transport. Engineers stretched
this smaller plane nearly 40 ft. and added two engines. -Found on the aerospace website
d. Development of AN-124 transport
i. Two engines
ii. Forty feet of length
iii. Additional tail
e. On the AN-225 Mriya there are 20 steerable wheels...the result is an extremely
maneuverable aircraft According to a website entirely dedicated to the brand the
Antonov website
f. An 225 is therefore very maneuverable on the ground
i. More than half of the 32-landing gear are steerable
ii. Aforementioned additional tail increases aerial maneuverability

Transition: Now that you have an understanding of the scale of this aircraft you might
wonder where it came from. The answer is an interesting development cycle in 1985.

III. History/production
a. Initially an enlarged version of An-124 heavy transport
b. The enterprise started designing the AN-225 Mriya multipurpose super heavy transport
intended to carry oversized assembled goods of up to 250 tonnes total weight including
orbital spaceship of the Energia-Buran space-rocket system. Taken from the RAM
homepage
c. Additional plane made of slightly different design which was stopped due to lack of interest
and restarted in 2016 by a Chinese industry
d. The An-225 had been designed and built within a three-year period. In December 1988 it
made its maiden flight Once again taken from the Antonov manufacturer
e. In 2009, the aircraft was upgraded to extend its lifetime by 25 years -global security
f. Together they invested the equivalent of 20 million USD to repair the AN-225 and install
modern avionics. From a very relevant money Inc. website
Transition: Now what might one do after having been developed in such a manor? The
answer is go on to set many records.
IV. Impressive potential
a. The An-225 Mriya has 240 records -Again from the popular science website
i. Heaviest cargo ever carried by air
ii. Longest cargo
iii. Also, longest plane
iv. Heaviest plane
b. With a maximum takeoff weight of 1.32 million pounds Statistic found on the cargo
forwarder website
c. Being repurposed to carry the HOTOL Taken from the Gale OneFile
i. British designed vehicle
ii. Aircraft launched shuttle
V. Conclusion
a. Restate main points: So, the next time you see a massive plane carrying a shuttle across the
sky you can count yourself lucky as it is the only currently function iteration of this plane.
b. Summarize main points You should now have a more thorough understanding of the
physical statistics of this plane as well as the somewhat interesting history and its
surprisingly large amount of records.
c. Final impression: Now go forth and imagine the potential of galactic exploration with
aircraft like this capable of delivering shuttles high enough into the sky to escape the
atmosphere under their own power.
