PROCEDURE
Introduction Time
Alright Grade 5s we are starting a new art project today that is about the winter season. I did an example of
what your finished products are going to look like.
*Show them example*
So the theme for this project is winter! You can see that in each section I included something that reminds me
of winter. I chose snowflakes, and ice skates, ornaments and wrapping because I celebrate Christmas (if you
dont celebrate Christmas of course you dont have to include anything like this), and I choose candy canes
5 min
because I see them everywhere this time of year. You dont not have to use any of these when designing
yours. Actually I encourage you to come up with ones that remind you of winter.

While you are working on this, I will call students over a few at a time, to sign their name on our class hands
for the.. Please wait till youve been called before you come up.

Learning Activity #1: Sketching
The first step for this project is going to be with pencil so you wont need your markers out just yet. You are
going to have your piece of card stock paper. To start you need to turn it landscape and draw in your
snowman in the bottom left just like I have on here. After you have your snowman you are going to draw your
lines in. When you are drawing your lines, I would suggest doing five sections, which means only three lines. If
you put too many sections, it becomes crowded and too few, it doesnt look like it is supposed to. 5 min
Alright one person from each table can come up and get paper for their table. When you are done this step,
you must come and show me before you can move on to the next step, which is using the markers. Any
questions?

Step two: Markers are used to colour in the pencil designs.

Step three: Sharpie is used to go over all lines.

Step four: Water and paintbrushes are used to add effect.

Assessments/Differentiation:
Assessment through observation of effort, participation and understanding of general task.
Differentiation is provided through extra instruction and assistance when needed.

Closure Time
Alright Grade 5s it is almost time for reccess so I need everyone to clean up their art. Before we do that, I
want to show some of the artwork from today. These students have agreed to let me show their work.
Clearly these students were using their time effectively. Awesome job!

When I say go, I need all the art supplies put away and one person from each table can collect the art work
and put it in the hand in bin. IF you have already started adding water to your work, please lay it out on the 5 min
back counter for it to dry. Once everything is cleaned up you need to be back in your seats before you can be
dismissed for recess.
